When I created the community for The Boondocks last month, I made a typo in the community name. Before we get too far into things I decided it fix the error.
I will be reposting the strips posted in December, starting today. The old community will be locked with a sticky added to direct people here.
This is it, the moment we have been waiting, today is the 28th anniversary of The Boondocks' syndication.
I have done some more digging into the history of the strip, and I found the FAQ from Aaron's old website.
Question: How can I see the old-school Boondocks strips?
A: The Hitlist strips are pretty much gone forever. There were some really funny jokes but Aaron is highly sensitive about the style he drew them in. The characters have changed drastically since then. The O.G. fans know that Grits actually appeared a few times in those early days. Don't worry, he'll be back. The Diamondback (U of MD newspaper) strips will probably also never be seen again. Those were the ones we put up on our old site before the strip got syndicated. You can find the original Source strips in the June, July, and August issues from 1998. Most likely they won't ever get put up on this site but we'll let you know if that changes. Many of the situations from the earlier strips have been updated and worked into the current storylines. The ones that haven't resurfaced are ones that were topical for the time period. (i.e., the strip about KRS-One's basketball commercial) It is likely that more of the early storylines will be updated.
This is the final image i have of presyndication strips, and wow do I wish I had the next one. I would love to hear who!
As with some of the other stuff i have posted recently, i found it on old forums, and blogs posts. Some of which have vanished between when I downloaded the images and now. I did not take great notes while downloading, because I kept the pages open. So i am going on the theory that this is from Source magazine. It is the lower half of a two strip block, i posted the upper half yesterday.

In my search for pre syndication strips of The Boondocks i found a handful that were published in Source Magazine. This happened after Aaron pulled the strip from The Diamondback.

I forgot to post this, it is from way back in March. When it was scanned from microfiche part of the article was clipped, and I have been unable to find this elsewhere.
Due to a technical error, The Boondocks was unable to be printed on 4 March, 1997. Instead the word OOPS! was published in its place.
Aaron McGruder was upset about this, and so the strip would not be published for the next two weeks.
