Like many American Jews, I was brought up to see Israel as infallible. Living among Palestinians taught me vital truths about the reality of the occupation.

I finished that year [his "year in Israel"] with little understanding of Israel’s occupation. While I noticed more “Arabs” (the word “Palestinians” never crossed our lips) around my settlement than in Israel proper, I remained oblivious to their reality of living under foreign military rule, with no citizenship or voting rights.

It is hard to imagine that 20 months after the outbreak of the Gaza war, the government of Israel may collapse – not over the most horrendous security failure in the country's history

None of these chipped an inch of plaster off the edifice of this coalition of blood; it was even strengthened by four shameless Knesset seats.

It is only now teetering because the politician at its head failed in his efforts to ensure that 80,000 young Haredi men who are subject to conscription would receive a perpetual exemption, padded with billions of shekels for the parties that represent them in the government.

On Wednesday, the three Haredi factions said they would back a bill dissolving the Knesset. The fact that the Shas party joined in the threat shocked the prime minister and his people. Is this Aryeh? Our Aryeh? Yes. Dery is subordinate to his super-extremist rabbis, who defer to their Ashkenazi brothers. If it were up to Dery, he would turn off the lights in the government compound. But not this time.

As people attempted to slowly advance to the aid site from the Al-Alam roundabout, more than a dozen witnesses interviewed by CNN described the IDF opening volleys of intense fire on the crowd starting as early as 3:30 a.m.

Robert Maher, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Montana State University, who specializes in forensic audio analysis, examined the footage for CNN and said that the bursts of gunfire were at a rate of 15 and 16 shots per second (or 900 and 960 per minute), fired from a distance of about a quarter of a mile (450 meters).

Trevor Ball, a former US Army senior explosive ordnance disposal team member, said the rate of fire was consistent with the FN MAG, a heavily-used machine gun in the Israeli military’s arsenal. The FN MAG is commonly equipped on the IDF’s Merkava tanks, which several eyewitnesses said they saw open fire on the crowds.

Doctors working at Nasser Hospital shared photos with CNN of the bullets retrieved from patients injured and killed in the attack, which weapons experts say appear to match the type of ammunition used in the Israeli military’s machine guns. “This bullet is consistent with the NATO standard 7.62mm M80, which would be fired by IDF 7.62x51mm weapons, including the Negev 7.62 and FN MAG,” Ball said of one of the images.

May 22, 2025, was the last day of life as they knew it for the Bedouin community of Maghayer al-Deir, which until recently used to reside east of Ramallah, in the central occupied West Bank. The 24 Palestinian families who made up the community were forced to gather their belongings and leave their home in the eastern slopes of Ramallah overlooking the Jordan Valley. After three days of intense harassment and attacks on the community, Israeli settlers now have complete control over the little valley.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli settlers have intensified their attacks on Palestinian rural communities in the West Bank, harassing, attacking, and completely displacing thousands of Palestinians. With each new displaced community, Israeli settlers gain control of more strategic areas for the expansion of established settlements or the establishment of new settler outposts.

According to Hasan Mleihat, spokesperson for the al-Baidar organization for the defense of Bedouin rights in Palestine, Israeli settlers have displaced 62 out of the 212 Bedouin communities in the West Bank since October 2023. These include 12,000 out of the roughly 400,000 West Bank Palestinian Bedouins.

“It is a wholesale ethnic cleansing campaign of exclusively Bedouin communities, which has been happening far away from the media’s attention,” Mleihat told Mondoweiss.

The Israeli army recently promoted an officer to the ranks of battalion commanding officer, “despite a pending decision” to launch “an investigation into reports from his subordinates that he “ordered them to shoot” two Palestinians in Gaza “carrying a white flag,” Haaretz reported on Wednesday.

An Israeli military drone “sent to the site spotted them carrying a white flag and waving their hands above their heads,” the report said.

The deputy commander, according to the two soldiers cited by Haaretz, answered, “I don’t know what a white flag is. Shoot to kill.”

He “later asked, ‘Was it carried out?’; i.e., were the Gazans shot?” the report said.

GENEVA – UN experts* today called for safe passage for the Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s ship carrying essential medical aid, food, and baby supplies to Gaza which departed from Italy on 1 June 2025.

“The people of Gaza have the right to receive aid through their own territorial waters even under occupation, and the Coalition ship has the right to free passage in international waters to reach the people of Gaza,” they said. “Israel must not interfere with its freedom of navigation, long recognised under international law.”

“Israel has imposed a full blockade on Gaza for 17 years. This blockade has been total and absolute since 2 March 2025, preventing aid from entering the Strip for over 80 days, only recently allowing a trickle of aid to enter,” the experts said.

“As the Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s ship approaches Palestinian territorial waters off Gaza, Israel must adhere to international law and comply with orders from the International Court of Justice to ensure unimpeded access for humanitarian aid,” they said.

Three Israeli soldiers have been killed in northern Gaza, the military said on Tuesday, in the army's biggest loss of life since Israel collapsed a ceasefire deal with Hamas in March.

Another two soldiers were injured when the group’s vehicle hit a roadside explosive device in the Jabalia area on Monday, according to an initial probe. The military found around 20 similar devices along the route, Israeli media reported.

Majority of Germans want arms exports suspended to Israel over Gaza war: Survey (Anadolu Agency, 2025-06-03)

>> Based on the opinion poll [by INSA], 58% of respondents supported a temporary halt to arms deliveries. Some 22% disagreed, and an almost equally large proportion (19%) could not or did not want to answer the question.

>> There is currently an intense debate in Germany about arms deliveries to Israel, particularly in light of Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip.

>> Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul recently announced a review of German arms exports to Israel. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, however, advocated continuing arms exports at the agreed volume.

>> Germany said Monday that it has approved nearly half a billion euros worth of weapons sales to Israel since October 2023…

Life as a genocidal settler-colony can be hard. You just want to quietly go about your day, exterminating the natives to fulfil your Biblical prophecy of Disney Land Gaza, but you keep running into problems like "international law" and "public opinion".

Israel was close to clearing the skeletal population out of Gaza when they heard something truly terrifying is on its way. No, not the asteroid at the edge of the solar system that may or may not be an earthbound alien mothership! I'm talking about something much scarier: international wanted terrorist Greta Thunberg and her second-in-command Liam Cunningham, a fearsome warrior who was forged in the fires of Westeros. The pair are travelling aboard a flotilla of... humanitarian aid ships.

As you can imagine, the 4"10 autistic girl and her loyal assistant strike fear into the heart of every IDF soldier. The situation could only be scarier if Ms Rachel was aboard one of those vessels, but that doesn't bear thinking about. Israeli drone operatives are in a difficult position: if they do what they want to the Freedom Flotilla, they could find themselves charged with "war crimes", and if they allow the boats to get through, it will set the precedent that Palestinians eat. As you can imagine, Israeli strategists are in panic mode, trying to figure out the best way forward.

US expected to block Gaza ceasefire vote at Security Council (New Indian Express, 2025-06-04)

>> The new resolution, seen by AFP, "demands an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza respected by all parties."

>> It also calls for the "immediate, dignified and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups."

>> … the resolution additionally demands the lifting of all restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

>> It will be put to vote at 4:00 pm Wednesday (2000 GMT), but several diplomats indicated to AFP that they expected the United States to wield its veto power.

>> They added that the representatives from the 10 elected members of the Council, who will introduce the text, tried in vain to negotiate with the American side…

The family explained that Yasser had deceived them for years by claiming to work in humanitarian aid for Gaza residents. However, shocking footage released by the Palestinian resistance later revealed his involvement in security operations for Israel. Testimonies from those close to him confirmed his affiliation with undercover Israeli units (“Mistaravim”), and even showed him beside an Israeli tank in Rafah wearing a helmet of an Israeli “anti-terror” unit.

The statement emphasized that the family would not allow its name and legacy of resistance to be tarnished by a collaborator, calling on the public and resistance forces to pursue and hold him accountable. The declaration went as far as stating that “his blood is forfeit.” The family urged anyone who followed him to immediately denounce him or risk facing the same consequences.

Previously accused of being affiliated with ISIS and stealing aid trucks, Yasser Abu Shabab has now become a symbol of a far more dangerous Israeli plan: to establish a post-war local force loyal to Israel and present it as an alternative to Gaza’s national resistance leadership. This bold step by the Abu Shabab family has been widely welcomed by Palestinians, who saw it as a clear message to every traitor:“Treason will not be protected—even if it comes from within the household.”

The Israeli government’s decision last Thursday to create 22 new settlements in the West Bank was reported as regular news in most mainstream media. Although it received official condemnations from the UK, Finland, and some Arab states, the decision passed with absolutely no practical consequence for Israel, despite European threats to impose sanctions.

On the other hand, within Israeli politics, the decision was regarded as far from ordinary and received with widespread fanfare. The Israeli Defense Ministry called the decision “historic,” while the Defense Minister, Israel Katz, said that the decision “reinforces Israel’s control over Judea and Samaria,” Israel’s term for the occupied West Bank.” Israel’s hardline Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, celebrated the move as “a great day for the settlement movement and an important day for the State of Israel.”

The geographical distribution of this planned network of settlements, some of it already in existence, will ensure Israel’s grip on the West Bank is all-encompassing. The sprawling web includes four settlements in the Ramallah area in the central West Bank, four in Jenin in the north, four more in Hebron in the south, two in Nablus in the center-north, one in Salfit in the northeast, three in Jericho in the southern Jordan Valley, three more across the Jordan Valley itself, and one in East Jerusalem.

In short, it is annexation in all but name.

>> In this emergency episode, Alia is joined by the international human rights lawyer and former senior UN official, Craig Mokhiber. They discuss a new, controversial mechanism for the delivery of humanitarian aid in Gaza – with American PMC[=Private Military Contractor]s at the core of the system. Craig offers his assessment of why the Israeli-led Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (#GHF) was established, its rejection by the UN and the international aid community for weaponising hunger, as well as the international laws it is breaching. He describes the cruelties and dangers inhering in this new aid system and outlines how individuals, including PMC employees, may be held legally accountable for their participation in the GHF and their association with the IDF’s wider war crimes.
