I dont really speak to my mother anymore. tonight, for the first time in several decades, I got a little baked, chilled by the fire and then decided not to worry about Mothers Day at all...

Have had a contemplative sunday. Am recovering from surgery, resting in bed, thinking about hiw/why I havent really spoken to my very elderly mother in years. Is this the painkillers talking, or sensibility?

hey, fellow kids. Been a while. How are we all? I see we are all making serious food decisions...

so...haven't been around for a while, so I thought I'd launch myself back in with a random question:

Would it be really fucking weird to get in touch with a teacher who went above and beyond to help me through some really, really tough shit 30 years ago to just say "hey, I've always remembered you, and I have turned out OK and am pretty successful, thanks"?

edit: thanks everyone

it has been a rough few weeks, team. I kinda wish I weren't off the booze, which means it's probably a good thing I am.

edit: before anyone's concerned, I've been off the booze all year, I'm just saying

so several months ago, I sought advice from this sub on ebikes, and got some great input from a few people (Calhoon? thornburywitch? taleya? I can't remember, but they seem likely...). Just wanted to say that a few weeks ago, I bought one (a kalkhoff as recommended by, I think, Calhoon?) and it has been perfect. Affordable (to me, I recognise that is not the same for everone), low end ebike, perfect for the commute from home to work. it is SO MUCH FUN to ride.

I love her (her name is Debra, just FYI).

almost a total car replacement for anything in a....say...25k radius!

Stuck at home with COVID, I am dangerously close to doing a lot of unnecessary online shopping just for the excitement of a packidge

COVID finally got me. Here ends a good run.

I unironically love Xena (yes, am lesbian).

I love that it constantly makes fun of itself. As for Renee O'connor, I read somewhere that what happened was that they had her dressed all demurely in season 1 until production staff realised she was actually ripped. then, as an in joke, as the seasons went by they made her costume smaller and smaller/more and more revealing.

Also, I met Lucy Lawless once (in the context of an arts industry function) and she was lovely.

so recently I was encouraged/asked by an employer to apply for a job with them. I'm not looking, but it was interesting work, so I thought "why not?". Had an interview, great chats etc.

they just contacted me to ask if I would take the role at a level several below what they had said it would be, which was already below what I currently earn, in the order of tens of thousands of dollars, and significantly more junior.

I try not to be rude in these situations, but I was so shocked I actually laughed in the zoom call and just said "absolutely not", wished them well and concluded the call immediately.

they approached me, not the other way around, and I am comfortably and successfully employed. why on earth would they waste my time, and their own!? my job comes with a very clear title, and my salary band is very public information (10 second google).

Don't get me wrong - I'm grateful to be in the position to have options, it's just that the whole thing was very, very weird (and I'm trying not to be so arrogant as to be mildly insulted).
