nah his party platform actually strictly recognizes the sovereignty of the Sahel states and is intent on getting rid of the cfa franc. in addition to a plan of leaving NATO as others have mentioned. so this isn't socdem stuff we're talking about here. i do have some critiques of his party's platform and rhetoric - such as labelling the islamic republic of Iran a "regime" (e.g. "ni shah ni mollah" from manon aubry). and i am somewhat skeptical of the feasibility of the electoral path to socialism. but france has some advantages allende's chile didn't have. there is still indeed a level of "i'll believe it when i see it" for france actually joining the socialist and anti-imperialist road here but melenchon is legit

Are you still working on this worldbuilding project? I enjoyed reading through all of it. I don't think I have ever encountered fiction that even considers or mentions a possible future decolonized Turtle Island. The closest is Kim Stanley Robinson's alt hist that has a Haudenosaunee federation. Would love to see some maps of this world if you have any.
