While at it by experience, anyone knows if it's cheaper to get random domain, just for personal stuff, this way and how are the renewal fees set, are they related bid made, once a the time comes to it the fee, based on the interest shown, is calculated, etc ...
I have been using the github student .me domain for random stuff but once I get new project I was thinking to push the trigger on porkbun for one.

I think it's usually more expensive that way. What I've seen is that these are usually domains that might be of special interest. This is also the case in the one that I have seen. (In contrast to auctions of physical things like on ebay, that might have aged already and thus are cheaper.)

That's what I would like to know too. Either that, or the prices are the normal fees of the chosen registrar. I don't know which.
That makes sense, why would a registrar auction a random domain just to be lowballed.

Once the domain is won through auction, it's transferred to you. You renew yearly with your registrar.
Basically what you buy in the auction is not the domain, but the permission to go run it at a registrar of your choice.
