Just finished watching. Predictable, but very cute.

I actually just finished myself definitely

spoilerThought it was suspicious when the director said something about him showing everyone his real worth or something like that before the knighting ceremony and immediately called it after the assassination

But I agree, very good kid's movie (other than the joke about Todd having a small dick lmao).

spoilerLol, yeah I was kinda suspicious and then by the time she was talking to him in the jail cell i was sure of it.

Nimona's back story tho.😭 mang, fuck Gloreth!

If you haven't seen it, you'll probably dig The Sea Beast. It's in the same vein. Less dark, more kid friendly.

I'm interested in it. Hopefully it's not terrible. Not read or seen it yet. I liked She-ra quite a bit for what it was. Doesn't seem like the author is involved with the animation production from a glance at wiki though.

I didn't know there is a book. I enjoyed it. It is a good child suitable movie (after a certain age) which shows the dangers of Fascism. It was fun to watch, while of course one could critique a couple of things. It is one of the best animated series/movies of the decade.

spoiler and tropes

  • 1000 year old child hentai-free
  • but! representation of different body forms, which is quite good
  • Anarchist and spray painted aesthetic is co-opted but also shown as a good thing
  • the 'we just have to tell everyone the truth' liberal trope gets fixed
  • our evil genius was not that likeable a character, but that is fine, since from the perspective of children adults are often a bit off and take much more time to learn stuff. Also it is fine to become friends with and care for people that aren't that likeable.
  • it is queer and trans friendly and centers one owns identity as ones own choice that is strongly linked with society and a support net, though.
  • could it be better? Sure, could it be Marxist/Materialist? Sure. But dealing with resistance to fascism and the oppressor oppressed dynamic and the CW self hurt tendencies is good.

Thought it was good. haven't read the original comics myself, but find the creators sub stack doodles funny enough, and also to give my friend (who is a big fan of the original comic) someone to talk to and/or complain about it with.

Enjoyed the little little lines/themes of queer/trans coding here and there. Have to wonder if those were in the script in the beginning or added over the last handful of years as the author increasingly laughs at his pre-transition self. https://www.imfineimfine.com/p/hindsight?utm_source=profile&utm_medium=reader2

I hear the movie doesn't hold up to the book. There are significant plot and character changes. I just watched the movie and it's slightly subversive.

I loved it. Made me cry because I'm a big softy. Felt that it was just as valid a metaphor for neurodivergence as trans identity. Very stylish animation, the characters were very distinct and all of the emotional moments felt very real.
