Since I've already seen a disgusting amount of victim blaming on Lemmy in this particular case, I've pulled the following out to highlight:

According to the complaint, Danbom and colleagues attended an Amazon-hosted event with an open bar before continuing the evening at karaoke bars. Amazon paid for the gatherings, the lawsuit alleges. Danbom and Simonte flirted and joked earlier in the evening, according to the filing. At the end of the night, he kissed her and persuaded her to let him accompany her to her hotel room.

The complaint alleges Simonte raped Danbom in the early hours of 28 October after she explicitly refused. It says he ignored her protests. Danbom reported the incident to the New York Police Department (NYPD) the following day and underwent a sexual assault forensic examination. She also gave officers a condom that Simonte allegedly left behind, according to the lawsuit.

The complaint says a detective monitored a subsequent telephone conversation between the pair. During the call, Simonte reportedly said he was 200% sure they had not had sexual intercourse. He later told police he was too drunk to remember what happened, according to the filing.

Danbom notified Amazon's human resources department two days after the alleged assault. She also told friends and her therapist about the incident, the complaint states. Amazon placed Simonte on a leave of absence for several months while investigating the allegations, according to Danbom's account. The company ultimately concluded that Simonte had not violated its policies.

The lawsuit alleges Amazon deemed Danbom's account unfounded because of insufficient evidence, treating the matter as a dispute involving conflicting accounts. Danbom disputes that conclusion, alleging investigators failed to interview witnesses who could support her account or collect other potentially relevant evidence. She also accuses them of asking inappropriate questions, including whether she had shouted no and whether she had done enough to stop the alleged assault.

Could she not quit the job?

    This horrible, complete condemnation.

But why would she go back to that office!?

This is a real question, I feel terrible for this woman. I am asking a serious question and hope for serious responses.

She had worked there for many years before this happened. She did transfer positions, but it was to her detriment. It was a lose-lose situation for her.

The employee ultimately had to leave her position and move to another role at Amazon, according to the complaint.

“Amazon’s conduct has also cost [the employee] far more than a paycheck,” the complaint stated. “Before the rape, her career was thriving. When she changed roles, she lost seven years of hard work and advancement. She has lost wages too. But the betrayal is the harm she carries every day.”

Free noted the lawsuit focuses on Amazon’s conduct and the responsibility of employers to protect workers who report sexual assault.

“This is a systemic issue,” Free said. “All too often, institutions protect powerful men at the expense of sexual assault survivors, and it’s time for a change.”

The employee is seeking damages for lost wages and employment benefits, future lost earnings, and emotional harm, including anxiety, humiliation, and damage to her reputation, according to the complaint. The amount would be determined at trial.

“I really hope that I can encourage other women to speak up and report these acts because it is only perpetuated if we don’t,” the employee said. “And women deserve better, and we deserve protection and safety from all of these organizations.”

To put it bluntly, you were being a douche.

When you engage in the kind of victim blaming malarkey you were repeating, you're lucky you weren't banned. Hell, I would have just nuked your original comment too because it just gets so fucking old that that kind of thinking exists. It's shitty to have to see it in the first place.

    Do better. Be better
