Calling it American covid is very funny given XFG has been global for a year and SW.2 is the actual dominant American variant

My cope is that this naming will make people take COVID seriously again.

Folks, let me tell you about the American variant. Nobody's ever seen anything like it. Many people are saying it's the real deal - the real deal! Very powerful. Maybe the most powerful variant ever, frankly. Tremendous strength. The fake news won't tell you, but people come up to me with tears in their eyes and say, 'Sir, the American variant is something else.' And I say, 'We're looking at it very strongly.' We're doing great. Believe me.

Some people with XFG have reported a particularly painful sore throat, alongside more familiar respiratory symptoms.

There are also apparently new eye symptoms.

When I got it in March 2020 I went to the doctor because I was convinced I had pink eye. The panic was just beginning but I had no idea covid could present a similar symptom. I noticed my sense of smell was gone just a few hours later.

And here's me with my covid infection of 2020 that came with an eye infection and eye watering that has never stopped. My partner also got the covid eye then.

The razorblade throat was also an og omicron thing.

So it's a variant of Covid-19 with all the same (so many) symptoms it's always had.
