Our immigration policy has been absolutely abhorrent. But that doesn't make it the Immigrants fault, it makes it our Governments fault.

I'd like to see us go back to the immigration policy we had in the 80's personally. Take countries skilled professionals, not students to work at Tim Horton's. There should also be multiple different caps, on average we should be taking in about 1% of our population in immigrants per year. We should also be limiting the total number of slots so its evenly distributed amongst all nations. That way no one country gets loads of immigrants coming here, and we all get to continue with being a multicultural country.

Rest of the questions don't reflect that so much...

Nearly double the amount of votes for the "big one". People showed up just to vote Remain them couldn't be bothered to answer the rest. As a result, what we have a referendum that appears to show Alberta wants to remain in Canada, but only on our own terms. Which is not much better than voting to not remain.

So disappointed in my fellow Albertans. Every time I talk to one, I'll remember there's approximately a 25% chance they hate Canada.

Try to be patient. Remember that the biggest problem is they are saturated every day with foreign news, foreign issues, foreign propaganda, and constant reinforcement often from their foreign employers. Be thankful that apparently a majority of us can see through the BS, and do what you can to help the rest recognize their neighbours aren't "out to get them" regardless of what the people on TikTok, YouTube, Twitch, and all the other American media are telling them. Hate, like they have, is a product of fear. They're cowards puffing up to make themselves seem scary because they are constantly terrified.

This I feel is the correct response. They are angry for real reasons. Quality of life across Canada is begining to drop. These are just some of the most entitled folk across Canada. We need to unite on verifiable issues. Not be told by foreign media.

The ones you need to worry about most aren't entitled, precisely. They're not rich, they didn't get anything out of following the conservative rules, but they're not ready to admit they were wrong and they were lied to. That's the barrier you need to get past. It's righteous anger, it's just misdirected. They need something to make them confront that, and then offer them a path to grace. Someone to say they fucked up, and hold them accountable, but there's a way to still make their lives mean something. They didn't waste it all on a bad gamble that everyone told them was a sure thing.

That just shows that they still want to be Canadian, but they also want to be racists within Canada.

Yes. It's objectively true there's more racism in western Canada than people like to talk about. It's not like Southern US bad, but it's definitely worse than anyone should be ok with.

Please don't lump all 4 western provinces together like that.

If you're referring to BC, things get... rougher... the deeper you get into the interior. Saskatchewan literally has people who think it's OK to gun down indigenous people who come into their farm yard, and do we really want to open the can of worms that is Manitoba? Are you going to tell me you've never heard the term "Hong-couver" before? BC conservatives are fighting to repeal indigenous property rights in the province as we speak. I stand by my statement.

The only province with a first nations premier?

The more rural you get in any province the worse the attitudes get. That's something we can agree on.

Yeah, and the US had a black president once too. How many protests have there been over hydro dams destroying indigenous sites and villages? How many fights over police brutality. Wasn't Winnipeg where they literally had to go to court to get them to search the dump for some poor woman that got murdered while indigenous? Please. I may be 100% Western European, but I'm not that kind of "White" where we all pretend one election ends racism.

There's a lot of people who still believe that race is biological. It's not, there's nothing about your physical appearance that determines anything but how fast you sunburn. "Race" is about how people who believe in biological race treat you. And like I said, there's a lot more racism in the west than anyone should be comfortable with. Probably more in the east too, but I won't speak for them.
