I agree this is terrible, and I encourage people to talk to their older / non technical friends and family

At the same time, that seems like a lot of work on the part of the scammers when the average person wouldn't know what their local sheriff sounds like. Osceola doesn't seem like a small town.

The grandparents scam (cloning the voice of a grandchild) is a lot more concerning IMO

  • Osceola county is huge, parts of Disney are in Osceola county, it's basically a suburb of Orlando.

And I'm fairly certain that I've been in the sheriff's office in the thumbnail pic but at no point in time could I have told you what the local sheriff sounded like.

Yeah, do they actually call tho? The either show up or get you when you come in. That or a traffic stop.

I used to work at a sheriff's office. It would be monthly that I would get a call from someone (mostly older or really young callers) scared that they had a warrant for their arrest. I would have to explain it was a scam and we don't call to let people know they have a warrant.

Bless their hearts, they would tell me the caller ID phone number and whatever "agent" name and "department" they called from. I just pretended to copy all the information down to do an investigation...and no, I didn't check to see if the callers had real warrants either lol.

See here's where I find it bullshit. There has to be someway for the cops to track that shit down. Pretending to copy? Wtf! Do your job. Instead of bragging about not doing it. Fk you

So tell me how am I going to track down scammers with VOIP and fake numbers? Do you think the tax payers will fund hundreds of thousands of dollars to fly to third world countriee to arrest their citizens? Do you even think other countries even give a shit about our warrants from some podunk rural county?

And no local or county agency has the manpower, technology, or ability to track those scammers. You have no clue even the slightest about these scams.

Most of the scam companies run their calls through a VPN or VPS wih constant number changes and VOIP, sometimes stolen numbers. It's incredibly hard to trace it just through the phone. Even if you do, the scammer's country isn't going to do jack shit about it.

I just find it bullshit people who tell public servants how to do their job when they have no clue about any of it. eDgEy
