In the country I live the alt-right has a very strong hold over one of the biggest online communities of the country. The thing is that this forum is a business that lives out of advertisement, so I think there is a weakness there if they were to lose advertisement money.

Do you know or have any successful stories about collective action being done to take the platform down or enforce heavy moderation changes so the alt-right gets deplatformed there?

Huh?

If it makes it's money off ads, you send corporations pictures of their ads being shown with shit they don't want associated with.

If the corps care, they stop paying ads.

Then the social media reigns in the nazis to get ad sales up.

Other than that, get people (including yourself) to just not use social media that's full of Nazis. Even if you think you're "fighting the good fight" if they don't have a "them" to attack, they'll attack each other.

All being there does is give them someone to unite agains

Find content that is against their service providers TOS and report them. Don't have much of a platform if the host / CDN doesn't want to have them as a client.

I don't think you'll get anywhere with a single tactic. Organizing, as with life, works best with diversity. In this situation, I'd probably start with some subvertising; defacing their ads to convey the message.

Someone who doesn't even have the balls to name and shame the forum won't be able to do anything. But in all honesty, comedy is the only thing that works.

The alt-right innately functions on relief.

They thrive off people feeling disgruntled and under represented by the system, feeling overlooked and alienated. People who have grievances.

...and then they provide those people with an identity, community, and a sense that someone is listening and will represent them.

That person is usually seen as a capable outsider who bucks the system and "gets them" showing this by being charismatic and funny. Someone who swims in the same waters/thoughts as them.

You'd have to break and replace all that, show them who "their guy" really is whilst being funnier and more charismatic. It's really tough to do and will need more than just one person.

    - people who fail at solving the Nazi bar problem

I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after- work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, "no. get out."

And the dude next to me says, "hey i'm not doing anything, i'm a paying customer. and the bartender reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, "out. now." and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed

Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, “you didn't see his vest but it was all nazi shit. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them.” And i was like, ohok and he continues

you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it's always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don't want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too.

And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a Nazi bar now. And it's too late because they're entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.

And i was like, 'oh damn.' and he said "yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people. And then he went back to ignoring me. But I haven't forgotten that at all.
