I’d buy a BYD in a heartbeat. Fuck Tesla. We need to get better fucking options for electric cars in the US.

You would buy the slave labor car from a hostile militaristic dictatorship

but you would abstain from Tesla for reasons of morality?

“Hostile militaristic dictatorship” could be said of America with how it works today. China is technically a communist country but okay.

BYD is objectively better at designing cars than Tesla. Give me a better fucking car and I’ll sign up. There aren’t good options for a person seeking a perfect brand. But fuck me for wanting a nicer car, I guess.

China is only communist by name. They’re closer to state capitalism. But I do agree that BYD makes way better cars than Tesla, still doesn’t want one though. Chinese carmakers (and Tesla) wants everything done from the screen, and I hate that, give me some actual fucking tactile buttons and knobs.

What is this touch nonsense going on? With most of the cars these days, not just mentioned ones. This is truly baffling. The only reason that I can think of is cheaper manufacturing 🤷

Probably yea, in the Mazda they really want you to use fingergestures and their AI assistant instead of just giving me a fucking button for mission critical stuff that I can use without looking.

I can think of a single useful fingergesture - middle finger.

I have the same opinion about touchscreens, but I can do most tasks on my BYD with gesture control, no need to look. Not perfect, but works pretty well. Most major functions also have physical controls, except the AC as I mentioned. I believe China implemented regulations requiring physical controls in newly built cars.

But do you know what is perfect and didn’t need change? Buttons and knobs. I don’t want a camera looking at me at all times just to do a job buttons and knobs did perfectly well. Touchscreens are fine for media and navigation, everything else should be with a tactile button I can push or turn without looking.

China is technically a communist country but okay.

Far from it tbh. It's a one-party state ruled by a party that claims to be communist, but holds a monopoly on political power, controls the military and there are no free multi-party elections. It also is heavily market-oriented with a massive private sector and a stock market.

It's capitalist with a very authoritarian regime. It's closer to fascism than communism.

China calls itself a communist country. But it has a leader for life, ethnic purges, and plenty of well documented prison/slave/child labor.

The US has plenty of problems too, and even a vehicle made here is full of Chinese parts made by the same laborers as the Chinese cars. Tesla specifically has terrible labor violations, especially since covid, but racism before that too.

I’d rather have small simple cars made by union workers and robots, with supported rights to repair and components that won’t total a vehicle if they break. I’m not sure late stage capitalism can support that, but China certainly isn’t any more interested in that future either.

Oh right sorry its fine for China (who helped elect the current US Admin) to want to expand their borders and try to kill you because also some other country is bad.

China is communist because the workers own means of production EXCEPT for the tools, factory, natural resources, currency, housing, transport, imports and exports, media, and every other facet of their lives: the dictatorship and oligarchy owns those.

BYD are also pieces of shit.

I was referring to their support in the reelection of the Trump admin and AfD, and their election meddling in Canada and Australia as attempts to subvert democracy and weaken NATO, but while we're on the subject:

They sent tanks in to take over Hong Kong, sold guns and planes to Iran which were funneled to terrorist groups across the middle east including the Hamas fighters who reignited the war in Palestine with the October Music Festival Attack and also the IRGC used them to kill more civilians last year than the entire US Conflict so far, China have been preparing to invade Taiwan, Chinese single-handedly keep the war in Ukraine going by financially supporting Russia, and also prop up North Korea which have directly fought in the war in Ukraine and launch missiles into the ocean as a threat to everyone around them.

A couple years ago they attempted to covertly build an underground military city near Beijing 10x the size of the pentagon with massive layers of concrete. They've been expanding military and aerospace presence and political involvement across Africa.

China is the single largest threat to peace and safety on this earth. The only reason they aren't storming beaches is because of EU and NATO alliances.

    election meddling in Canada

US has been the only active election meddling in Canada.

China is the single largest threat to peace and safety on this earth.

Take a nice boat ride through the strait of Hormuz and get back to us.

Everyone of your "facts" starts with "attempted to..." "planning to" while only one country is is actually drone striking fishing boats and bombing countries with no provocation.

First of all, no matter what USA, Russia, France, fucking Republic of Congo is doing that doesn't completely erase all the crimes of China.

US has been the only active election meddling in Canada.

Even if that were true, and it isn't, not sure how you don't see the irony in the fact that China helped put in power the current US Admin.

Take a nice boat ride through the strait of Hormuz and get back to us.

Yeah so I can get lit up by Chinese munitions? I see how you're missing the irony, now, it's willful ignorance.

You're complaining about China building a military base in their own country while we have military bases in 80 foreign countries.

Our own super mega bunker fortress we call the U.S. embassy in Baghdad has more total square feet than the Pentagon, along with 5,000 private mercenaries (totally not soldiers). An "embassy".

Every accusation is a confession from bootlicking toadies like you

Yeah, China is the problem. Okay.

You can't see it, but I'm making masturbatory gestures with my hand right now.

i 100% agree, im sad because i just found out the new mazda cx-6e is only partly made in japan, the base of it is a deepal chinese ev

i cannot believe how far japan has fallen

The cx-6e could’ve been great, it’s spacious and looks really good for a crossover. But everything is done through the screen, and I mean EVERYTHING not a single button in sight. the handling is subpar compared to European alternatives, the dampening on “sharp” bumps, like expansion joints, travels through the suspension and into the car while been almost floaty on long sweeping bumps. That’s the result of dampers that can’t handle the car and something most Chinese cars I’ve driven suffers from.

my understanding was that they completely redid the handling?

i do agree about the buttons/knobs, one of the reasons im going ioniq 3 is for the buttons, i flick the volume up and down far too often to fuck about with a screen

It does handle better than most other Chinese cars of the same prize, but they haven’t tuned out the crashing over rough spots sadly. And it gets even worse on cobblestone roads, you’d almost needs a kidney belt.

Probably too early to ask for opinions, but how reliable are they?

Also will gladly read any personal experience you've had with any issues with driving, charging, anything specific to watch out for, etc.

The only issue I have with BYD is that their service centers are way overloaded, with a waiting list of several weeks for an appointment. They're also pretty inefficient with warranty claims - I had a minor issue, took me 2 - 3 months to get it fixed, though at least they didn't try to deny it. Don't really have any issues with the hardware itself, good performance.

I've been driving a BYD Atto 3 for nearly 4 years, just about to hit 80,000km. I've not had a single issue and I've been happy with it. Done a few multi-day road trips with no issue, although I think the quoted range is a dream at motorway speeds, when on slow roads its probably close.

Certainly no regrets and the wife loves it too, much prefers and drives it when I'm not commuting.

I've heard the suspension on them and most other Chinese vehicles sucks balls and you're going to feel every bump.

Also they're probably spying on you and sending data back to Beijing to train AI and subvert democracy or something, based on the dictatorship's MO.

No fucking wonder. They have a more varied lineup, capturing a broader spectrum of the market. They also managed to deliver truly affordable EVs (even though they are kind of shitty).
