In July, there was a sudden spike in .SI (Slovenia) domain name sales, and now that Trump has announced AI will be rebranded SI, their owners are attempting to resell them for millions of dollars.

No one is going to use "superintelligence".

There's too much culture surrounding "AI".

This is like Twitter renaming themselves "x".

What a stupid grift lol

There's some cleverness behind it. The government is legally mandated to only refer to AI as SI, so that will theoretically boost the value of the squatted domains among the people obsessed with the stuff.

Even a gold rush can enrich a shovel salesman.

Not really a good example, seeing as they were pretty successful, even if it a terrible name.

Were they? They took one of the most recognizable brands of the century and made something people tend to avoid referring to because it's hard to.

I hope Elon has to spend a few billion to rebrand xAI now.

.si = stochastic inaccuracy, not 'super intelligence'.

This is why I needs a character with the tops and bottom lines, I thought it was Sl not SI....okay yes different if I recalled upper case but brain doesn't always differentiate properly at first glance between upper and lower case (unsure if noticable second one was lower case L, but confusing helps make my point).

Also just another grift from the tangerine con man. I bet he barely knows what's going on these days just shouts at things until they pump him fill of medicatiins to be as coherent as we're used to seeing. Thankfully for their work, he was rarely coherent.

Considering it's the domain for Slovenia, it's understandable you'd assume L instead of i... Had double-check it myself.

Wonder how many .SL domains are out there and whether they have similar names for a much lower price.

    What does S stand for?

I'm personally all for rebranding "AI", because current "AI" is not intelligent. Before current "AI", the term AI meant that a computer would basically have human skills combined with computer skills, and current "AI" certainly falls short in many human skills.

Artificial Intelligence is an old field of study. I dislike that LLM's are being called AI broadly. I also think algorithm and CGI are misused. That's all a tangent.

The S is for Snake. Not sure how they spell oil with an I.

I mean it's all "AI" in the very broad sense. We've been on a journey to research and improve AI for many decades now. You can argue that any self-reliant automation (like Roombas) is a form of AI.
