Work more = boost the economy?

I constantly hear this exact rhetoric from politicians and so-called "experts." But they completely ignore the following points

• We aren't machines. Anyone who constantly overworks gets sick or burns out. In Japan, people literally die from overwork ("Karoshi")
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karoshi

• If it were really just about working hours, we could just replace all humans with robots. But that's exactly what nobody wants. So what is this really about?

• Hard work doesn't guarantee a promotion. The boss decides who gets promoted based purely on gut feeling or "appearance". There is no clear, transparent leveling system.

My conclusion is that the entire "work more" narrative only exists so we pay more taxes.
But if the government can't stimulate the economy with the funds it already has, how will more money help? And the consequence? Even more work. Where does it end?

Do you see it the same way? Or does "working a lot" actually pay off in the end?

It's all a carrot on a stick for us poor people (anyone making under a million dollars a year can be considered poor next to the assholes that call the shots), because there are no counterweights to rich people's fortunes.

All because number must go up and GDP is this magic number that, despite being bullshit and useless for measuring actual progress or innovation, dictates how "the economy" demands us to behave.
