People don't choose which country they are born in(to). I also despise their exceptionalism, but that doesn't mean I am inclined to feel like I am better than anyone else based on where I was born.

People's "value" isn't baked into them at the moment of birth. Being a shitty person might not be that person's "fault" but they can still be an objectively shitty person and the reasons don't always matter.

Why would the UK be in the chair if the woman was the EU and the man was canada?

Eta: trade agreements or whatever the eu thing ends up being will likely require changes to law and the Governor General (crown Rep in canada) needs to give "royal assent". So somewhat indirectly, canada needs the crown's permission to form this partnership.

The metaphor is that the UK willingly leaving the EU is akin to a man telling his wife to see other men. He gets nothing, she gets new "trade partners."
