Apple is relying on an opt-in procedure: When activating Siri AI, the manufacturer asks for help in improving the chatbot, as developers with access to the release candidate of iOS 27 report. The update will be released to the public on Monday, September 14. You can either agree to this or press a visually inconspicuous “Not now” button. The dialog cannot be completely dismissed. Users can switch it off again after activation in “Settings > Analysis & Improvements”.

Previously, the company had quietly revised its guidelines on “responsible AI”. The sentence “Your private personal data and interactions are never used to train our foundation models” previously ended with a period. Apple has now removed this and added the following passage: “unless you explicitly choose to help improve them”.

I don't know how anyone could ever trust anything a Western company or government says anymore. Of course they were going to do this why would anyone think otherwise

looking forward to seeing the apple user comments on social media about how this is actually a good thing for apple users, isn't a reversal or betrayal or even a noteworthy change of previous corporate positions, but is a also a good faith fulfillment of the loving promise made to them long ago when they voluntarily paid thousands of dollars to be admitted into the exclusive walled garden of fashiontech suckers.

The Fuckerberg apologia repeats. "Don't worry, it's all opt-in," etc. And, of course, the old tried-and-true, "If you don't have anything to hide...."

The capitalists and their corpos can literally say shit like, "People shouldn't have any such thing as privacy; all your data should be public," and millions and millions of people will still go to bat for them.
