I like people who do things with their actual capital.

This is great. 100 times better than posting a guillotine with 0 intention behind it. Thank you CAH.

So, build a giant guillotine decapitating a statue of him?

I put in $100. I get to vote on naming it, but I have no ideas. Doesn't matter to me. I just want someone to tell him to fuck off.

I appreciate what they're doing and the other things they've done...

but god do I hate that game. CAH ruined casual party/game nights. It's fun, the first time... for about 20 minutes... and then every game turns into "who has the most offensive lolsorandom card"? Like forcing a bad joke, every round is just a mix of "jizz/shit/dick/popculture" with little to no relevance to the question card in play.

Being a boring game isn't a crime though, what's bad about it is how ubiquitous it is as "adult game night" activity. There are so many other things to play, but you'd have to learn some basic rules... and that's too much... so out comes CAH again for everyone.... and 20 minutes later... "LMAO HillaryDuff pissing on orphans!! LOLOL" for the next hour.

House rule that makes it way more bearable and points out how unfunny the game is. Have an additional "player" that plays cards literally at random, perhaps the dog or cat. The goal of the game is to see who can beat a random number generator.

Spoilers: most people can't beat the cat.

I upvoted you. Catan is worse than Monopoly for me, and I hate Monopoly with the burning heat of a thousand suns.

Played a game of Catan for the first time in years over the weekend. Two players spent most of the game with the thief on their settlements, and the rest of the game with no good rolls. I think the end score was 3/4/7/10.

There are just so many better games out there that dont do what Monopoly and Catan do so well: pick a winner by chance, and punish the losers for not being luckier.

This is exactly my issue with Catan. It suffers from a severe snowball effect disguised as strategy. If you have as few as three unlucky rolls especially when paired with a poor initial placement, you are mathematically locked out of the game. You end up trapped as a "zombie player": unable to win, unable to meaningfully impact the outcome, but socially obligated to sit at the table for another 45 minutes asking, "Anyone want some sheep?" and occasionally getting a pity trade from the more empathic players at the table.

Meanwhile, the player who got lucky early on praises himself (because it's always a guy doing this!) for his "strategic genius," when in reality, the game's mechanics simply rewarded his initial dice rolls.

Like Monopoly, Catan has neither catch-up mechanics, nor any meaningful alternate routes to victory, meaning a bad start basically dictates a long, agonizing, and ultimately unfun endgame for all but the lucky one or two.

I have to ask, have you bothered communicating that you don't enjoy it and would rather play this other game (that has a rule video so the terminally online don't have to read)?

If not, sucks to suck, enjoy CAH until the end of time.
