Millennial here.
What's one more recession, war in the Middle East, or El Nino to me? They're like old friends at this point.
I'm numb to the "once in a lifetime" crises at this point.
El Niño grande
temperature anomaly expected to hit 4C (about 1C higher than previous record)
another measure of El Nino "extreme" is length of time above 2C deviation (and 29C absolute), which is already comparable to 2015, and forecast to be more than double for 29C absolute time. Time pumping heat into atmosphere/air from ocean matters just as much as peak pumping amount. Though near 31C ocean temperature peak in deep water is very extreme as well.
I thought we were already in the super el nino, are we getting an el nino of an el nino now?
Super el niño is +1.5°C, this one will be around 3-4
That sounds fun!
Seriously, we're fucked...
This isn't even my final form-kind of vibes.
El Hombre.
It's one of those things where some agencies count it as "average surface temp" over weeks, while others count the average over weeks. So maybe Australia called it the biggest El Nino several weeks ago, but now some other country is able to agree because more weeks have elapsed.
Its a gradual process. Its not due to reach its peak for another few months afaik.
Off topic but web sites really need to have a dark mode toggle. I get that there are extensions …
Someone on our team for work lives in the Philippines and it's no joke. Loads of storms and flooding. The data for rainfall / storm energy backs up the assessment that this year is gonna be wild.
