The best waffle is better than the best pancake, but the median pancake is better than the median waffle. It's a complicated world out there.

Now now, I think there are merits on both sides of this conflict, and if we can all come to the table and be rational I think we'll all agree that obviously waffles are the superior breakfast food LMAO get wrecked you syrup-dripping stack of flatjacks.

Listen, it's not my fault you poors have to ration your syrup so carefully that not a single drop can ever be allowed to spill. You could be eating the superior breakfast food but instead you're stuck with your dry, unfulfilling waffles, all because their shape holds your precious syrup. I can only imagine the resentment you all feel as I drench an entire plate in luscious maple goodness just to coat one bite of our soft, fluffy pancakes.

Run off syrup is for dipping later!

Yeah, it flows off the pancake onto other pancakes, and onto the plate underneath. You can use the plate syrup to syrup up the remaining dry bits of the lower layers of pancake.

I wholeheartedly agree. You're gonna need a truly obnoxious amount of syrup on there. Slurping up the syrupy buttery soup with all the little bits of waffle left behind at the end is like the cherry on top of the whole waffle eating experience sundae.

Damn, I want waffles so badly now!

I'm seeing barely any mention of syrup quality in this thread. It should go without saying that real maple is a non-negotiable, but it also must be real maple syrup from Quebec, because it's superior!

    What about the sponge-like crumpet?

You have to lift up the edges of the bottom pancake so that the syrup runs under the pancakes.

That's why you need the sharpest knives to cut along the dividers, preventing spills.

Man, I just don't like either. Like maybe one singular pancake with a small amount of syrup?

  • don't eat syrup, that shit has such a strong osmolarity that it burns my mouth! I usually end up eating pancakes or waffles with smashed berries instead.
