How do you get bored talking about Mesoamerican archeology?

Admittedly, if I was upset at everyone being on their phone, I might be a little disappointed to discover my bus-mate was a Human Podcast. But I'd definitely be one of the people on the phone listening to some Trans-baddie tell me about mayors or James Bond movies or engineering disasters to begin with.

A more recent one is breaking down the intersection between gender swap manga and actual queer media. A lot of gender swap stories aren't really queer, and there's a strong compcishet bias amongst the genre's fans. Somehow, they refuse to comprehend that a character transforming into another gender might have transgender undertones. They even try to deny it when a gender swap story is more obviously trans coded.

It's fascinating how genderswap stories intersect with the industry trends of different countries (for example, Japanese genderswap manga tend to be very fetishistic as a result of needing to carve out a niche in a market aimed at young boys). There's also a world of difference between action oriented gender swap media and more domestic series (most isekai stories are a power trip of a dude in a girl's body for marketing purposes, while domestic series are more likely to seriously tackle issues of gender and identity). Very few gender swap stories really give me what I'm looking for, yet I keep wading through slop in the hopes of finding gold. Even the ones I kinda like I'm embarrassed to show, as so many of them have a base level of pervy nonsense.

Are you familiar with Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl? I remember reading most of it in middle school and I think it was the first time I was exposed to the idea that someone’s transition could be accepted by others as something normal as the initial shock of the gender swap at the start wore off.

Than make a different account for that stuff. (And that’s why my account conglomerate is growing)

It's less me being embarrassed in regards to my "reputation," and more about me being embarrassed to say it's worth reading. Like, some of them are really pervy or have super disturbing implications, but there's other stuff that I feel they do really well. I guess it's more that I can't uncritically recommend them without a whole lot of disclaimers

And which ones have ya been enjoying? I personally don't mind some baseline perv. Tho, I rarely watch anime, latest watch was s2 of frieren. I really enjoyed the starting romance between the Stark and Fern. Tho, that's just speaking as a man that's been on Starks place.

I mostly read manga, so my suggestions might be of limited use if you want anime. I think Onimai is a fairly trans code genderswap story, and while it does get a little gross sometimes, it hasn't completely alienated me yet (it also has an anime adaptation). Until I (M) Become Me (F) is fairly mature in how it handles the subject of gender, and isn't really pervy at all despite occasional nudity. Kare to Kanojo no Sentaku handles gender well enough, but if you go in expecting the obvious romance, you will be disappointed. TS Gakuen no Nichijou was surprisingly good and didn't cross the line with its pervertedness like some others do. I'm a High School Boy, but I Got Gender-Swapped into a Gyaru is super perverted, but somehow even more of an egg story than Onimai. Zenbu Kimi no Sei is also quiet good, featuring both nonbinary and explicitly trans characters.

There's also more grounded stories with more realistic gender bending that probably deserve a mention. Kakumei no Hi, is technically about an intersex person, but the character goes through a gender transition and has to deal with a gang of chasers literal chasers. Senpai wa Otokonoko challenges understandings of sexuality and gender by the main character simply choosing to exist. Sakura-chan to Amane-kun is a cute t4t story that will probably never get finished. Love Me for Who I Am is refreshing in how it refuses to tip toe around LGBTQ issues like most other manga (Shimanami Tasogare it's similar, but not focused on gender). I Cross-Dressed for the IRL Meetup Is also explicit trans rep, but still worth mentioning.

There are other stories like Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl and I Love Yuri and I Got Bodyswapped With a Fujoshi! which I haven't finished and can't fully recommend. There's also plenty of stories that while interesting, I can't really recommend for one reason or another.

What's a "domestic series" in this context? Like a US manga (sorry for assuming you're USian)? Or a Japanese manga aimed at a Japanese audience, which somehow doesn't apply to almost all Isekai?

I assume they mean slice of life?

Why would "slice of life" be "domestic"? That doesn't make sense to me.

Domestic means related to the home. We also use it to mean related to the home land, but that’s a secondary meaning (though that’s probably the more common usage nowadays).

Ones that take place in an everyday "normal" world that's mostly similar to our own rather than fantasy or sci-fi. There's usually some fantasy or unrealistic science involved in the genderswap, but the setting is otherwise exactly like our own.

Do you read webnovels or lightnovels. If yes to the latter I've really enjoyed "she professed herself pupil of the wise man" in spite of some… shall we say "choices". That author's egg is cracking any day now.

If yes to the former, see you on scribblehub, we got all sorts of gender bender and trans stuff there. We got the works of Fern V Bedek, we got whatever Cape and capability is and we've also got (ahem) me!

There is some good shit on scribblehub, but I'm big on urban fantasy and so much of the genderbending is that. As far as eggy authors are concerned, I try to avoid such speculation, even when the signs are billboards. If they want to come out, they will.

See, in that moment I would've pulled out my unfinished thesis about climate cycle influences on social and technological advances across pre-Columbian civilizations.

I mean, you never know, you know?

Sometimes it might be better to wait on excavation than to do it improperly. This is especially the case in areas that are too politically unstable to have their own research institutions handle it. The artifacts should always be returned to the people who have the strongest connection to it, not taken away by some imperial power. All the shit stolen by Europeans needs to be given back as soon as possible.

That said, I'm not huge into archaeology in particular. It's cool, but I'm more interested in other fields.

Reminds me of they guy who went digging to find Troy, but thought it was deeper than it was. And he might have destroyed any remains of the city in the process of digging it up

there are so few people who are interested in things, and even fewer who will communicate this to others, for fear of cringe or social anxiety.

this is a good meme in the sense that it'll spread for a long time and through generations, but i don't like anything that might discourage folks from sharing their true, obsessed, incompatible selves with the greater world

Why is she framing it as though talking to her is a punishment? That's exactly what the guy wanted
