I haven't properly used Windows in a long time, but I have a feeling the disk checking might be caused by fast startup. Basically Windows hibernates instead of fully shutting down, and the disk should never be touched while hibernated. But if you have the NTFS partition mounted in Linux, then it touches the disk anyway.
Is fast startup enabled in Windows? If so, try disabling it. It also isn't needed on SSDs and does more harm than good.

No. You can’t. Have backups and get comfortable with your distributions bootloader reinstallation process.
You’ll have to repartition your disk as GPT (which will delete all your data, so you’ll need to back everything up), then install them both again. GPT disks use an EFI partition that can hold multiple boot loaders. Install Linux first, so it creates a larger EFI partition. Then when you install Windows, it should use the same partition. In the UEFI (BIOS), you’ll be able to select which one you want to boot. Linux’s boot loaders (like GRUB) can usually show the Windows install as a bootable option. Windows’ boot loader will only boot Windows.
One thing to note is that you’ll need to run the grub setup again after you install Windows so you get it as an option at boot. How you do that depends on your distro. In Ubuntu and its derivatives, it’s just sudo update-grub.
If using efi (instead of bios), set up a second efi boot partition. Use one efi for windows and the second for Linux. It's "non standard" but the efi spec does not explicitly forbid you having multiple partitions, and it will keep windows from disabling anything on the Linux boot partition.
If there's a way under Gaia's green earth to put it on a separate drive, do that. Stick windows on an external NVMe on a fast USB / Thunderbolt, or many laptops have a WLAN port you can shove a NVMe into (often faster than SATA, has a PCIe lane, so give it to linux). Then use BIOS (F12 or whatever) to swap between them, or boot to linux first and let GRUB start windows. Back when, I used REFind on macbooks, if I recall it gets in there earlier but winblows is likely onto it by now.
This problem has been so persistent that it indicates malice aforethought from M$, so if possible give it it's own lesser device until you can find an alternative to that holdout software (sympathies if it's Photoshop or AutoCAD). Perhaps there's a way to run it on Wine / Proton.
with UEFI, i don't think it's much of an issue as it once was. i have one machine with windows and linux installed, windows doesn't mess up linux's bootloader/partition.
You'd be saving yourself a headache if you use separate physical drives. I was able to get a dual boot to work on one drive temporarily, but it broke every time Windows updated.
In the age of Bitlocker and UEFI windows recognizes potential drive contamination at a very early point in the boot process. So it will look like it's working fine at the start, but once you boot into the linux partition, Windows is going to request disk checking at next boot and potentially write over things.

Windows will rewrite your boot partition, when it feels like it.
It can be commanded to do this remotely, also. Its called a Windows Update. And Windows buries itself below Ring 0 via Pluton/TPMv2.
It does this because the NSA likes being able to keep tabs on everyone.
The precise/exact way this works is hardware/setup dependant, and changes every 6 months or so, ish, but yeah this bootloader fuckery nonsense has been going on for years now, in dual boot setups, and there really is not a plausible explanation for this continuing as a persistent 'problem', other than Windows makes NSA backdoors into your entire system, or breaks shit while trying to.
Dual booting is dumb if you value system security and stability.
I just hit a key to skip checking when booting windows. And the check only takes a few seconds if I miss it
If you've got a desktop, and using sata drives, you could use a SATA Power switch panel. Basically on off switches for drives so you can turn off the Linux drive when booting windows.
