I'm pretty sure Trump has replied with variations of "Shut up, or else!"
How exactly does he (plan to) punish Canada and Carney for this insubordination?

"national monuments" is another vice stab at the brainless moronry that has befallen that land.
Cool. My wife's grandmother was the Wendat chief's daughter. Sharing this with her.
"big beautiful lake" seems right up his alley
He wants the rise. Should have ignored. When asked about Lake America, say they aren't sure about anything about it
Unfortunately, they are used to that, via gish-gallop politics. If you don't respond, they play it up as capitulation. If you respond, they often move on.
The best (least worst) answer is a quick, concise counter, then ignore it. It gives enough ammo to shut their implications down, without wasting too much more time.
For renaming things, could make positive comparisons to Europe or French Canadians having different names for things.
"Yeah, that makes sense, just like the French. Now Lake Ontario will also be known as Lac Amerique. Multiculturalism!"
Though using the french spelling/pronounciation might make it more obvious they are being made fun of. Hard to say which would be more frustrating, comparisons to cultures they hate or support for having multiple names (along with the assumption that it's just adding a name rather than changing the name) rather than taking the obvious bait.
Though in all seriousness, he can call it whatever the fuck he wants. It doesn't really affect me one way or another.
What happened to "Huh, that's weird." and moving on? That seemed to get the magas quite mad a few years back.
That's still often the go to response. Unfortunately, it's not always effective when it most matters. You need something to throw back when they try and make an issue of it.
This is a good example. If Canada did nothing, then Google etc could be pressured into assuming that they accepted it. A quick counter response saying "no" gives plenty of ammo to stop that.
Once that's done though, the "that's weird" is the best mentality.
Basically, the guys playing with their own shit are also flinging it far enough we need to take some measures to avoid being splattered too. It doesn't make it less weird though.
I think you're over-thinking this. Trump is acting like a fool. The best response is to just laugh at him when he acts like a fool.
Sure there are foolish things he does that has serious consequences, those need a serious response. This isn't one of those things.
On this? Laughing at him is the best and most honest response.
He said he might also rename the Atlantic and/or Pacific Ocean too. Someone needs to tell him it's a good idea and he should definitively do that. Then we laugh at him some more.
It's the difference between walking away from a blowhard threatening to fight you, and telling them to fuck off, before walking away. A twitter post on it is about as casual a fuck off as a government can give.
Trump changing the H2O-nouns of Lake Ontario isn't really the push towards trans rights I had in mind, but I'll take what I can get at this point.
What's this in response to?
the Epstein files
Of course he does lol. What a tool.
Nah. Tools are useful. He's toxic fuckin waste.
No, toxic waste can still be useful in the right context, like scientific research.
“So, if you think about it, we have a gulf and we have a lake. Now, all we need is an ocean,” Trump said. “So maybe we’ll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific. Maybe we’ll change them."
Can he just die please.
Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to Lake of America. If you remembered lake names using pneumonic HOMES, you can now use SHAME. Or you can be an adult and call it Lake Ontario, because exectucie orders don't rename geography.
The Premier of Ontario told Trump that he could kiss his ass.
So Trump is changing the name of Lake Ontario on American maps.
So i didn't know what a hydronym was so I goggled it.
Maybe Ai is getting smarter and more on the pulse
