I was recommended TerraFirmGreg as it is a little less extreme with the tech trees and gives you a much more realistic overworld, with stone layers, ore deposits and latitude-based climate zones.

It also makes the Ad Astra planets finally worth exploring but I haven't gotten that far

I’ve been also getting into HBM’s Nuclear Tech Mod. Different vibe than GTNH but similar itch and 1.7.10. Doing a play through without a mod pack, where it’s the focus alongside standard quality of life like JEI.

Have to evangelize this when ever Greg mentioned because of the common big approach. Nuclear science and modern/post apocalyptic tech focused, with a lot of fallout ports.

Also the creator updates it regularly on the GitHub which is cool. Sorry if I started talking mods in a modpack discussion uh

Nomifactory is great. I’ve never gotten more engrossed in any other version of Minecraft, and I find it comfier than most factory games. Some interesting custom mechanics as well, alongside modded versions of familiar mods with more features and performance improvements. I played it a few times throughout the years, they’ve taken out so much tedium.

I can’t leave this out: Current maintainer is supposedly a questionable guy hiding his power level but half the mod authors are people who mod their hormones too so he keeps polite.

Has gregtech changed much during the last decade?
