Considering how common back problems are I think school gym classes should focus on teaching safe lifting techniques (for moving furniture, appliances, etc) and doing exercises that strengthen back muscles.

Cardio is good too of course, but I think people would see more benefit in the long run from a strong back and good lifting technique.

You'd probably have to have more stringent requirements for gym teachers if you did this though.

Strengthen your abs and lift properly and do stretches every day and your back will attack you less.

When it does attack you, attack it back with electroshock pads.

Make it pay for attacking you.

my back muscles say I betrayed them first by sitting all day, no running, no squats, no deadlifts, no rows.

fuckin victim blaming is what it is, turning it back around on me. being DARVO'd by my lumbar spine over here

I think it's possible I am the only person I know in my age group and up that does not have chronic back pain of some kind, even despite my big ol' milkers.

I do consider myself to be very lucky

  • We let them grow too powerful. Walking upright was a mistake.

Did you know that society & capitalism are full of incessant demands that keep people on their feet and bending forward over menial tasks all day, while financially disincentivizing full-body physical exercise & wellness, the sum total which results in crippling back pain?
