lmao at the category naming. "neither prepared nor relaxed"

[-] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 38 points 1 day ago

Texas leading that category is chefs-kiss

[-] RNAi@hexbear.net 36 points 1 day ago

Hold on fucking TEXAS has less % of gun-owning homes than all those states?

[-] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 53 points 1 day ago

the several times ive visited and family i had there gave me the distinct impression that, despite it's constant mythmaking, it's a more repressive place with a broad, servile underclass of minorities where a small minority owns an absolutely deranged number of guns while most people are just going about their lives trying not to get locked up or shot.

certainly, its history as

  • the only state that seceded TWICE to preserve slavery
  • the entity that premeditatedly exterminated its abolitionist and free thinking communities
  • the most aggressive policers of their own internal history to forget and destroy a rich tapestry of racism, cowardice and sniveling betrayal of the human spirit

has had an impact on the general perception of what "texas" is, both within and from outside.

Loosely related but until like 6 or 7 years ago Oregon gun guys were always like "yeah our gun restrictions are looser than Texas and those states, but keep it low key so nobody catches on"

[-] EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 day ago

Yeah it's been bullshit here last 5 years or so

[-] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

Texas and California are respectively more liberal and conservative than people are led to believe. The main difference is which party has gerrymandered the state.

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago

key word is "household" gun ownership, you have a handful of loons with whole armories and a lot more people with no guns

[-] axont@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago

I was thinking it might be because Texas doesn't have a central database of firearms. Ownership data comes from a varied amount of sources like public health surveys or voluntary reporting. But I don't know if other states do that.

Also the demographics of Texas are way different than the image presented. The average Texan is a working class Latino person trying to survive, and then there are also suburban white folk who own entirely loaded gun safes.

[-] CarmineCatboy2@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

i guess it is a big ass place

[-] BuhbyeLittleGumshoe@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

Probably all them suburbs in the desert

These stupid things always rely on people answering honestly.

If a stranger asks me if I own guns my answer is fuck no. I own many guns, but I won't fucking tell strangers about it. Come on, people.

Genuinely everybody talking this seriously is a fool, get some fuckin stats and real human interaction experience weirdos.

[-] none@hexbear.net 5 points 21 hours ago

Vermont for the win!

Also, how the fuck did Kansas beat Colorado in Yoga?

[-] DelgadoSlims@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

There's a lot more opportunity for outdoor/active reaction in Colorado. Even in the urban areas, there are way more parks, bike paths, etc. In Kansas indoor yoga studios have less competition for your free time

Gun-Owning Liberal, Kansas

How is Texas in the bottom half of gun ownership rates? It’s chud central.

[-] doubtingtammy@lemmy.ml 33 points 1 day ago

It's because it's pretty urban. There's lots of guns in those cities, but most households in an urban area aren't gonna have a gun.

The inverse is Vermont. Very few chuds, but lots of rural gun owners.

[-] CatoPosting@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

GA isn't gun owning, interesting. Having lived in rural GA, Atlanta has to be pulling those numbers way down.

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

This is anti-alaskan propaganda

[-] RNAi@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

Bears don't usually bear arms, but they do do yoga

[-] FrankLaskey@lemmy.ml 17 points 1 day ago

And the winner of most peaceful and flexible state is… Seriously, I can’t tell what it is since they slapped the label on top of it..

I guess they finally stopped havin’ the mafiar in Providence nicholson-yes

[-] doubtingtammy@lemmy.ml 2 points 11 hours ago

They have a "wise guys deli" franchise now.

The sopranos portrayal of the providence mob as a few old psychopaths seems accurate https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qzofsq7ZH54

[-] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 1 points 3 hours ago

Sopranos got more right than it got wrong by leaning into the satire

Actually, a lot of people in WV do yoga and are armed; do with that info as you will.

[-] john_brown@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

but are they stupid enough to answer a phone call from a stranger and tell them about their guns?

[-] Athena5898@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

Lol not the ones who do yoga that is true.
