That's about it. I mostly just wanna be able to run roms on it so I don't need to buy GameCube games that I wanna replay

If you're playing pirated wii games on it, I also strongly recommend using Wii Backup Manager which automates the process of sorting and labelling wii games (from whatever format you get them ISO, WBFS, etc.) and putting it onto the USB stick/external HDD you're using.

It's been a few years since I hacked my wii. It was probably like 2018. I used an exploit called 'letterbomb'. You just put the file on your sd, then the console thinks you have a message from another player, you open the message, and it runs the hack. I'm not sure if the process has changed since then

The hardware between the wii and gamecube is pretty similar. Wii runs gamecube games natively rather than through emulation.

If you use Linux on your computer, there's a tool called 'wit' (Wiimms ISO Tools) for managing wii and gamecube roms. Check your distro repository.

The cool thing about wii discs and that they all have a hash signature from nintendo so that you can verify if they have been tampered with. This was intended to prevent people from running authorized code on the wii console, but tools like wit can use the signature to make sure the game has not been modified. The signature verifies the game partition on the disc, so it even works on compressed discs.

IIRC I used an app called 'Nintendont' to launch gamecube games on the wii from a usb hard drive.

You can download wii and gamecube roms from https://vimm.net/ .

Homebrew is cool, don't get me wrong, but you can always emulate and get better resolution and mods

I have a wii sitting around and thought it would be neat. That and its hooked upmto my CRT and ive still got my 25 year old gsmecuve controllers, a wii has a built in GameCube, so it's also a fidelity thing, ive got the hardware for the real experience but the games cost a lot now

I got it aroind launch and then gave it to my parents when I got sick of it snd they gave it back when they stopped with it and I do still play wii jeopardy and some other multi-player slop when having pals over for drinks from time to time. The wii is badically a dart board to me, and that is fine and dandy but may as well get more out of it for fun

Nice! I actually just bought one off a friend who was moving and needed to get rid of some stuff. I haven't decided what I want to do with it yet, but I'm sure I'll get homebrew on it soon.

Wii sports still slaps hard. Any mid or bad game with in person multi-player is a great multi player game and the wii is full of em. When the jank is a shared experience it becomes a fun social thing. Wii shoveleare with friends is some of the most fun you'll ever have gaming. A bad game with not online multi-player can be the best time. It sucked in a lot of ways but the wii was fantastic for silly things to do with friends and that does rock hard. I'd love more mid games that even my grandparents who were born in the 30s and are dead now wanted to try out and we had fun playing together.
