I feel like these are just bot accounts. People are arguing with propaganda bot accounts.

(Referencing the pro trump account, btw)

People against Hitler were told they hated Germany. People against Franco were told they hated Spain.

People against Trump... do you see a pattern here?

Things is, you're totally within your rights to loathe someone who was "before your time," such as Reagan or Thatcher or Jackson or Jefferson or... But to use "loathed" in the past tense means either you used to hate this individual but no longer do, or that you hated them back when they were relevant. Since this individual clearly has not had a change of heart re: Obama, we must assume the latter, that this individual had strong emotional opinions about politics before they even hit puberty, which as anyone who has even met a child before can attest is utter nonsense.

The pivotal argument for "I hated him" is always "He hated me back first". Which is this unfalsifiable nothingburger of a critique to begin with. It's racist, but it's also this mush-brained apolitical critique bound up in Feelings over Facts & Logic.

this individual had strong emotional opinions about politics before they even hit puberty, which as anyone who has even met a child before can attest is utter nonsense.

Children absolutely have strong emotions about things they don't comprehend. My toddler son will throw howling tantrums for the most baffling reasons (he had a meltdown this morning because he looked out a window and didn't see a cat).

But much like with my grumpy little wiggler, all I can say to this guy is "What do you want me to do about it?" I can't control if you've invented a Barack Obama to be angry at, because you decided he gave you the stink-eye through the TV.

So much of the MAGA Movement is bound up in this perpetual sense of imagined martyrdom. And that martyrdom comes out of this endless font of national media full of demagogues screaming "They hate you! They hate you! They hate you!" If liberals ever want to retake this country from the fascist chud battalions, they really need to set aside their starry eyed fetish for Constitutional Principles and SHUT THESE VENUES DOWN.

Call'm monopolies and break them up. Pull their broadcasting licenses. Press charges on all their owners and managers for any of the litany of crimes they commit with impunity on a daily basis. Block their websites. Shutter their studios. Smash their printing presses. Outlaw their churches. Roll-em up and kick-em out.

Otherwise, you're going to be dealing with this shit for another generation. And another after that. Until the fascists are fully in control or someone comes along with the balls to do what you can't.

Yeah, this is a really trash argument that collapses under the slightest scrutiny. The conclusion is correct, but the means to arrive at it is comically flimsy, and it's a shame to see Lemmy endorsing garbage.

If an 18-year-old wants to praise Obama's administration (fairly or otherwise), I don't resort to ageism.

If an 18-year-old wants to go talking about how Obama dragged his feet on LGBT rights until Biden roped him in, the litany of war crimes, his love affair with natural gas, etc. I don't resort to ageism.

And if an 18-year-old wants to go talking about how Obama was a Muslim socialist who raped children while wearing a tan suit and only Donald Trump, master of all four elements, could stop him, I don't resort to ageism, because it's a shitty argument, and I actually have some fucking intellectual honesty.

You loathe Trump because you loathe America

I loathe Trump because I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Yeahhhh, if you wanna go ahead and stop expecting things to turn around as soon as Boomers die off, that'd be great.

I remember being super overjoyed when Obama won as I was entering college, and I still think he's objectively a good man who did a hard job, at the same time, dude blew up a lot of brown people. Universal healthcare is mainly a bipartisan fuck-up, but dude was a war hawk.

As a 40yo Canadian, I've always loathed America and what they stood for on the Global scale. The global police, the central trading partners of everyone despite offering nothing, having the primary metric of the global economy... But I never hated Americans. I always had a tremendous amount of respect for the kindness of your average American despite what their country does to the world.

The Trump happened and watching 2/3rds of the American Population either voting for it or being completely complacent on it (not voting at all) shows how much the average American cares not only about their own countrymen but human beings all over the globe.

I never had a lot of respect for America. I no longer have respect for Americans either.

It was so shocking when he won. We really didn't know how racist and sexist Americans could be when given the choice.

I do blame the Democratic establishment to a large degree for offering hurting Americans literally nothing, but I didn't think they'd choose... that, over nothing.

The nicest thing I can say about it is at least it shows Americans want radical change.

I loathe Obama because he illegally bombed Yemenis and other people, then bragged about how good at killing he was.

They always make a false premise. These ones are easy to spot, but always look for it.

So what's the logic here. I hate this country, so I'll become its president? I usually try to keep away from the things I dislike.
