Can of coke for scale as I have larger than average hands.

Edit: It's elephant garlic. I am a stupid 🙃

Not big enough. Add more cloves.

Heads? I think you mean two heads.

In awre at the size of this lad

[-] kichae@wanderingadventure.party 14 points 12 hours ago

That's pretty good! I've used larger -- not counting elephant garlic -- but that one's up there among some of the greats!

[-] Ludicrous0251@piefed.zip 2 points 9 hours ago

Your mom has used larger.

[-] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 3 points 8 hours ago

I was a comin' to say ... looks like a pretty standard sized clove of elephant garlic. Your edit has ruined my sanctimony and robbed me of my sense of superiority over you.

I like elephant garlic, but I don't like the price compared with plain ole run of the mill garlic. But this does give me an idea, maybe I should grow my own elephant garlic this year!

[-] Floodedwomb@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

It's also a lot milder than regular garlic.

Oh yea? Once I found a clove of garlic thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis big!

[-] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 10 points 12 hours ago

That’s a big one. The largest I’ve seen is a bulb of garlic that was just one clove.

[-] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 7 points 12 hours ago

It never occurred to me that garlic could just not separate when growing like this.

A whole bulb being one solid piece would be interesting to see

[-] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 4 points 7 hours ago

Apparently there’s a variety that always does that called solo garlic.

[-] brem@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Fasciated, perchance?

You sure you didn't accidentally pick up some elephant garlic?

[-] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 14 points 11 hours ago

Y'know I just went and looked at the package and that's exactly what happened lmao

Reminds me of the person who bought a carton of double yolk eggs without realizing and thought they just kept getting lucky 😅

[-] brem@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago

They should have "sideshow tents" at farmers markets that are just full of double yolked eggs & elephant garlic.. maybe a few giant gourds or a potato that looks like Bill Burr.

[-] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

That would actually make me more inclined to go to one.

Despite being a professional cook my whole life I don't know near as much about vegetables as I should. I know the typical ones obviously but the fact I didn't even know elephant garlic was a thing makes me feel kinda uninformed

[-] RePsyche@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

Have you considered feeling recently informed? It’s a fun thing to know about! That’s for certain!

[-] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

Yeah but it just makes me realize how much I don't know and as a lifelong cook I should know.

Problem is I can't learn by reading or videos I need to be shown first hand in person how to do things in order to actually retain the information.

It's a special kind of hell 😭

[-] brem@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

It's a little & fun unknown fact that garlic can eat garlic & become ultra-garlic

Unexpected Avenged Sevenfold

[-] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago

Unfortunately I already minced it for my dinner 😅

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

I mean, this seems like the optimal form of consumption, so... yea.

[-] brem@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago
[-] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago

I do both! I smash it first then mince!

[-] thallamabond@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Smash and pull apart, gets real soft, is good.
