An independent legal opinion issued last week by a major law firm said Smith's legislation "clearly violates" the Health Act.

Yet Mark Carney's federal government has not intervened, despite pleas for months from health organizations, labour unions, and the NDP to use its powers, including financial penalties, to stop Alberta.

"Our government will always defend Canada's universal health care system," a spokesperson for the federal Health Minister told The Breach. He said the federal government would "closely assess the regulations associated with the bill."

Since taking office, however, the Carney government has broken one promise after another on the health-care file.

Health Canada saw its funding chopped by $1.3 billion in the 2025 budget. The federal government has stopped negotiating any new pharmacare agreements with provinces.

While the federal government hangs back on enforcing the Health Act, Alberta's privatization risks spreading across Canada.

Can we cancel this ishb I am done with her and Boozeboy McFatass here in Ontario. The ”My Taxpayer Money” crowd can kindly either accept the wealth hit or get that TN visa and fuck off. I was born and raised in the States - for the right price I can get you access to the book with the eagle on it but you have to promise to never come back.

I am all for reclaiming the "my taxpayer money" label. I pay taxes and I want a social democratic welfare state for my money. I am the taxpayer, I am willing to pay more in taxes if needed, and I demand publicly owned and union operated universal services.

I much prefer citizens' money. The money paid in rent is not rentpayers' money but landlords' money. Similarly taxes are not taxpayers' money it is citizens' money.

In principle we agree, however immigrants pay taxes too.

Danielle Smith reeks of treason.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 3 months ago

im surprised she hasnt worked with PP yet? consider they both have similar goals.

[-] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 10 points 3 months ago

She's treasonous, but probably can also see that he's a weenie.

I think it might be the other way around. I don’t see how PP would want to be associated with a Separationist

[-] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 3 points 3 months ago

Nah.

The weenie is strong in him.

Poor people ruled by oligarchs.

She's just evil for evil's sake. A fucking sociopath.

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 months ago

It's probably for profit. Private corps are lining up to pickup the insurance profit from any healthcare privatization effort.

I understand Carney is a “war time” PM, but come on.

[-] GuyIncognito@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 months ago

I'm starting to think that he's "wartime" in the Petain sense

Nice WW II reference

Outside of if they could do it before separating I could only hope people would toss her out if they could feel what no public healthcare feels like

[-] LycanGalen@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

I agree with you. And I get so frustrated knowing the majority of the dimwits who voted for this won't be the ones to feel the brunt of what they voted for. I wish it could be targeted: "Because you voted for us, you get to experience our "optimised" healthcare system first!"

[-] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 months ago

Hmmm, I can think of something else that should be thrown out ….

Oh another psyop to get idiots and assholes to vote against their own interests because racism and exceptionalism is en vogue among those who would chop off their own head to spite their body.

Cool.

So is Alberta like y'all's Texas?

[-] lobut@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 months ago

The sustainable solution to this problem can only come from inside Alberta.

[-] prodigalsorcerer@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 months ago

Wait... Can we use this somehow to get Smith (and probably Ford) to open up the constitution and make healthcare a federal responsibility?

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 3 months ago

putins other puppet.
