Hey, I am using a VPN from my home to connect to my parents homes WLAN.

This works fine so far. I can access their router settings, their printer settings and so on.

Now I'm trying to print something on their local printer. As I am more or less "local" in their network via VPN.

The problem here is: My computer doesnt find the printer. Sadly there isn't much configuration possible in the VPN settings as they are slimmed down by the router.

Am i missing something or is there anything else i have to do to see and eventually connect to the printer from my home?

Printers usually use mDNS for local discovery. This isn't going to work over a VPN. As others suggested, you should configure the printer with a static IP (or DHCP reservation) and then point your client/PC at that static IP.
