Google, the owners of YouTube, has removed a channel on the platform belonging to a pro-Iran group producing Lego-themed videos mocking Donald Trump.

"Upon review, we’ve terminated the channel for violating our Spam, deceptive practices and scams policies," a YouTube spokesperson told Middle East Eye.

"YouTube doesn’t allow spam, scams, or other deceptive practices that take advantage of the YouTube community."

Explosive Media's content largely consists of animations ridiculing the US war effort against Iran and poking fun at the US president.

Is this like when we banned the Chinese electric cars because we dont feel like competing anymore?

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 44 points 1 month ago

More like when we forced the sale of TikTok to Steven Mnuchin and Larry Ellison.

[-] Hexagon@feddit.it 19 points 1 month ago

I'm fine with removing them as well

"YouTube doesn’t allow spam, scams, or other deceptive practices that take advantage of the YouTube community."

  1. Bullsh*t it doesn't and
  2. Which one of those categories does an obvious satire / parody channel fall under?

Every American company is loyal to the empire. If not by gleeful obedience then at least by threat of court orders and political pressure. I guess in Google's case it's that kind of gleeful obedience.

[-] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 34 points 1 month ago

[-] onlinepersona@programming.dev 30 points 1 month ago

They are welcome to join the fediverse and put videos on peertube, odysse, bitchute, kick, whatever.

[-] grumpusbumpus@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago

But sadly, now millions.of eyes won't see it, which is entirely the point of the censorship.

[-] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago

That means the videos were effective; I don't agree with Youtube's decision but it's their business I guess.

Now I want to watch the videos

[-] ImmersiveMatthew@sh.itjust.works 22 points 1 month ago

I have not only de-googled myself, but I have de-Americaned too Moved all my online business to European equivalents. It has been eye opening as not only are the European equivalents comparable, but they had surprise extras that saved me money overall. That and OMG they are so much easier to setup and navigate as I am not wading through offers, upgrades, pop ups and dark patterns all over the dang place. It is like I have exited an abusive relationship with America that I did not even realize was as bad as it was. I love America, but I cannot be a part of funding their fascism.

It'd be so great if we could use Peertube as a "hosting provider" for Lemmy videos

Explosive Media, known in Persian as Akhbar Enfejari, has denied it is backed by the Iranian government and its videos have reached millions of viewers across a range of social media platforms.

Speaking to the BBC, the head of Explosive Media, who referred to himself as "Mr Explosive", said his team consisted of fewer than 10 people and that the Iranian government was a "customer" of his company.

NGL, confusing article. Not even sure why it would matter?

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago

If Iranian state actors are producing videos of this quality, it may become an existential threat to US Meme Hegemony.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

That Hegseth one was pure gold. I’m going to be bummed when it’s gone

[-] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Sleazy company

[-] catchy_name@feddit.it 11 points 1 month ago

Dailymotiom is french so I had hoped that anyone wanting to watch them could just go there. However, I don't see most of the videos in question there.

Looks like the videos exist on this Russian video hosting site: https://m.vkvideo.ru/?q=Lego+trump&action=search

[-] Mangoholic@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 month ago

Its propaganda sure, but they didn't even need to lie in the lyrics. Is it still propaganda if true? Looks more like satire to me.

Okay but link to the vids?

[-] baggins@beehaw.org 6 points 1 month ago

That was bloody neat. And I say that as someone who normally hates rap.

I listened to it all the way through.

Although the music isn’t my usual thing, whoever made that is very clever. There’s so much small detail going on there. Brilliant sense of humour. And very talented.

I’d love to his reaction after watching one.
