I can't believe Arthur, my favorite celebrity, gave in to corruption and became a sellout. Now I'm questioning everything. Is the library even fun?

[-] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 23 points 2 months ago

He should have stuck with being an English alcoholic socialite in New York City.

[-] tetris11@feddit.uk 8 points 2 months ago

Arthur... Bach? Is that the reference?

I had to dig really hard to find this one. Why is he so well known to you?

[-] emeralddawn45@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

I mean it's a movie with the exact same title as the show everyone is talking about? Doesn't seem like that much of a deep cut

Not really sure. I'm middle aged so maybe that's a factor? Funny thing is I've never actually seen either of those movies. I guess I have a fairly good memory for useless trivia.

[-] Morphite88 4 points 2 months ago

Or you're a Christopher Cross fan?

[-] TheJesusaurus@piefed.ca 7 points 2 months ago

Not if you don't have a library card

I have a library card. But I still find it difficult to have fun sometimes. Was it all lies?!

[-] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 months ago

Do you think someone would actually do that? Just go on the Internet and tell lies?

[-] toxicbubble@lemmy.world 65 points 2 months ago

also made him lighter skinned 🤔

[-] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 44 points 2 months ago

Arthur is supposed to be an anteater??!?

[-] Sludgeyy@lemmy.world 34 points 2 months ago
[-] captain_oni@lemmy.blahaj.zone 64 points 2 months ago

YOU DONE MESEED UP AY-AY-RDVARK!

[-] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 4 points 2 months ago
[-] Rusty@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 months ago

Aardvarks are much better than anteaters, if we sort them lexicographically by name.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

NO THEY ARE NOT ANTEATERS DONE EVOLVED MORE TIMESES gang up on him all y'all different anteaterses

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

They covered this in song.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

My first artichoke plant was named Arthur. Then a bastard cultist murdered it. I think that's about all i can go into it though.

[-] mrfriki@lemmy.world 41 points 2 months ago

That's actually very accurate modern day's double standards.

[-] tetris11@feddit.uk 34 points 2 months ago

Marc Brown in conjunction with PBS inspired 4 generations of children to learn tolerance, respect, and community. The good this man has done is arguably more far-reaching than Mr Rogers himself

[-] cornshark@lemmy.world 27 points 2 months ago

gestures at America if he's been at it for 4 generations then what's all this?

[-] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

For four generations we've been associating tolerance, respect and community with childish cartoon characters; something to be outgrown.

[-] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 4 points 2 months ago

I got about as much tolerance left as Bugs Bunny.

[-] tetris11@feddit.uk 10 points 2 months ago

He got 2 in 3 of us. The other 1/3rd I'd rather not talk about

[-] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 months ago

1 in 3. A third decided to be bystanders in the fact of abject bigotry.

You are probably on to something here. We shouldn’t have tolerated everything. We shouldn’t have entertained their conspiracy theories or gave them a seat at the table at all.

We will have to figure out a way to do better.

[-] deadcream@sopuli.xyz 25 points 2 months ago

Making him perfect one step at a time

[-] huquad@lemmy.ml 18 points 2 months ago

There's absolutely nothing wrong with your nose, but if you ever want to change that hideous thing on your face, give me a call

[-] Jerb322@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

He's a fucking aardvark?! 🤦‍♂️

[-] Arrkk@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

"🎶A-A-R-D-VARK!🎶"

[-] oozynozh@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 months ago

something was, in fact, wrong with Arthur's nose

[-] entwine@programming.dev 13 points 2 months ago

Arthur's first book was nothing but beta cope, but once he took looksmaxxing seriously he ascended to become a celebrity and cultural icon.

Take notes, children.

[-] Danarchy@lemmy.nz 11 points 2 months ago

His shirt also went from rad as hell to swirly bait

[-] brownsugga@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Just like all the body positivity ppl once a shot could make you skinny

[-] MrNobody@quokk.au 9 points 2 months ago

He traded his nose for some minor sight defects.

[-] you_are_dust@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

To be fair, that wasn't the final change to his appearance. His design jumped around a lot. This is very clearly a multi-verse situation. The Arthur-verse.

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 6 points 2 months ago

So I went and looked: aardvark means "earth pig" or "ground pig" in afrikaner

Also, this is Arthur's reaction

[-] BrambinagStoneboots@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Erdferkel in German. Earth-Piglet.

[-] jeffep@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Looks like they just shortened his face, the nose is the same
