Wouldn’t that just let you know when the burst is at the end of the clip? If you only hear 2 rounds, you know the clip is empty, where if it was divisible by three, you wouldn’t know until you pulled the trigger and no rounds came out that the clip was empty.

Hon hon hon, our enemies have learned that oiu fire in three shot bursts. Now with zis five and twenty round magazine, zay will here a single shots, and keep their heads down till zay hear zee third shot, giving ample time to reloads! Hon hon hon, baguette!
Wouldn't this be easy to fix with a 3d printer and some springs?
It's a lot easier to fix by simply not bothering to use the 3-rnd burst function at all. It's an idea that has always worked better in theory than in practice.
IIRC the reason is simply that 25 is about the maximum amount of 5.56x45mm ammo that you can have in straight mag because of physics or some shit.
Right, so...
So you use 25 bullets or a curved mag. Since the FAMAS was apparently designed with straight mags in mind (I assume they are cheaper to make and/or more durable). I guess soldiers with OCD can shoot the extra bullet semi auto after chambering it. Or maybe they load their mags with 1 less bullet and there's a guy running around with an extra mag filling it with these extra bullets /s.
In all seriousness though, I wonder if that has a part in the decision to move to the HK416. I would guess not, since I have never seen "real" criticism of the FAMAS on that basis (hell, I don't think I've ever seen someone have truly bad things to say about this rifle after using it, but I've never used one myself so what do I know). But I will try to investigate.
Okay, but that's a famas? Also the p90 is Belgian, not French?
Evidently bruddha didn't play Counter Strike enough
(this is about top comment)
P90 is what they should be using.
That's a substantial difference. The 5.7x28mm caliber the P90 uses is allegedly pretty good against amor for an SMG, but the bullets are expensive and it's never going to have the stopping power of a rifle.
Also France fields HK416s now anyway.
PDW vs assault rifle tho?
Magpul designed a similar (imo better) gun, the PDR-C, which never went to market as there was not enough interest at the time. P90 is pretty good, too. Gotta love dem bullpups.
Only for airsoft though, I hate real guns.
French using a gun not designed in France.
You must be new here. Allow me to show you our lovely Chauchat collection.
