Thinking of Jim Carrey in Liar Liar, when someone tells people to rise for the honourable judge and Jim goes "Honourable, PFF!" then signs the stenographer not to record that lol.
Kinda like watching an entire country pull the handbrake and go into a perfectly executed powerslide where they abruptly turn 180 and speed off in another direction.

Just because he lost is seat doesn't mean the conservatives didn't gain any ground. It's quite the opposite. And chances are, another MP is going to step down to have a partial election to elect him in another riding where he'll be more popular.
Best case scenario, he retires at the sweet young age of 45 with his cushy government pension and we never hear from him ever again.
I've been cautioning people as well. Right-wing politics aren't unpopular in Canada, it's just that the the centrist voters got spooked my Trump.
No one should bet on another miracle for the next election. The best case scenario may be that the PC wing retakes control of the federal Conservatives and we just get a raft of deregulation and privatization without all the culture war grievances.
This is something I would respect, but totally disagree with. LoL

As satisfying as this seems, I prefer a more realistic approach to this. He will likely get someone else to step down and win in a by election and carry on like before.
In four years the social pendulum has been held on the liberal side for so long, that next election the pent up energy for "something different" will more than likely push the pendulum to the right, with Pierre as leader.
It's the provinces that have more power with our cost of living, it's still going to get worse and when things get bad, people go right.
I've had the same thought. This is a pyrrhic victory: the conservatives actually gained seats, and the smaller parties all lost ground. So if the Liberals don't deliver big, it'll be a blue wave next time.
Also, I really hope the NDP can reinvent themselves and become relevant again. We need something on the other side of the liberals.
