The US and Ukraine have finalized a ‘temporary ceasefire deal’ during the Jeddah talks, which were meant to be a kind of conciliatory round two chance for Ukraine to amend for Zelensky’s faux pas.

Anyone who thought that Trump wouldn't be just another imperialist of the same variety as Biden has egg on their face. Great man theory bunk yet again.

    The boxer on the ropes and his trainer deciding to have an extra time-out.
    Surely the other boxer must accept or he is clearly not of good will.

    And the exact same "ball in Russia's court" tweets LOL
    EU crying about not being taken seriously and demanding respect.
    Here they are again reading what the note says dictated by their US masters. Pathetic clowns

    Lmao even the usually 0% critical about Ukraine Polish media had a little pause over this truly nonsensical pseudodiplomatic farce. Fortunately for them it was a little pause and the script was soon followed up as before with a more pressure in voice.

    I don't expect the invader to accept a proposal to stop their invasion. Hopefully Trump realizes this soon and surges support to Ukraine to force Russia to stop their invasion.

    Trump immediately announced all previous restrictions on weapons aid and intel sharing to be lifted from Ukraine

    Seems he is half-way there in doing what needs to be done to stop Russia's invasion.

    Nah, it's not a slippery slope to suggest that people who want wars should fight in them. It's funny how brave y'all are when it's other people dying for your ideology.

    How? Ukraine will need troops from additional armies in order to win against Russia.

    The regime the west is supporting in Ukraine is precisely in the position the south Vietnamese regime was.

    @60d@lemmy.ca

    The USA hasn't won a single war since WW2.

    Indeed, it was Russia that enabled the other allies to land on D-Day. The eastern front occupied the best German troops. One would never know this if reading Anglo-Saxon history, though. Sad.

    Cowardly bombing a country is not 'fighting a war'
    Even then, like the ukranians you mostly used a proxy, the Kurds and other local factions to do the fighting for you.
    And in good american tradition you threw them under the bus later.

    First of all how old were you when it happened?
    I bet you got the sanitised, revisionist version, after some years plenty believed it had to do with WMD's and never heard of the US warcrimes. (Same thing happened after decades of Hollywood fantasy movie propaganda when people in EU began to believe the US won the war and not the never mentioned Soviets)
    I'm sure I know more about it or history in general you since we have better education than you Canadians and.
    I'm sure with the many many SS Galicia warcriminals that moved there, and their offspring like Freeland whitewashing them I think you probably don't know enough about your own country.

    @Bloomcole@lemmy.ml

    Sadly, you're right about my country — most Canadians don't know that many Ukrainian Banderaites immigrated to Canada during the Cold War. They had to be stringent anti-communists, so obviously that would be people from western Ukraine. And yes, just like our former Deputy PM, Chrystia Freeland. Her Grandfather was an official Nazi. I've heard that Alberta has some statues glorifying Bandera, possibly in Sask and Manitoba too, where there are other pockets of Ukrainian diaspora. It appears that some Canadians on Lemmy are followers of this ideology, judging by many of their comments, like the fool you're responding to. Probably why the western provinces of Canada Alberta always vote hard right.

    And it continues: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2024/12/30/cypl-d30.html

    immigrated to Canada during the Cold War.

    Also yes, but my link shows the west actively rescued and evacuated the worst SS nazis even during the war and sent them there.
    Others followed later.
    They figured it was a good way to counter the left-wing sentiments many earlier immigrants had. Ironically many of them Ukrainian communists.
    Here's a good read on how it evolved and how they now have power:

    Good luck over there.

    @Bloomcole@lemmy.ml

    Thanks, yes knew about this. NASA was successful because of German research and the lead technical person was a von Braun, IIRC. West German Intelligence was staffed by many former Gestapo too. They figured it was a good way to counter the Soviets and East Germans in Europe.

    Ask people now about Iraq and see if they mention Kuwait or WMD's.
    And where do they miseducate people like that?
    Is it a secret or should I guess?
    Another one of the terrible 5 eyes countries?
    then 1 UK AUS.
    Or one of the terrible baltics or miserable Poland.
    But your English is good and know how to spell (so I should've known you weren't american)

    Years of pumping Ukraine full of cutting edge western weapons to the point of bringing both the EU's and US's weapon stockpile dangerously low couldn't stop Russia, there isn't anything the west can do to stop Russia.

    They are going backward WITH their weapons and have to kidnap kids and granddads off the streets.
    Tell me genius, how exactly are they going to "stop their invasion". Are you still living in your 2022 Russia is running out of arms and gas fantasy?
    It will end when the fascists are defeated, orange man or anyone else has no say in this and can't do shit about that.

    Amazing operation BTW from Russia going 15K in a gaspipe and then destroying and capturing what's left of the Banderites.
    Somehow you don't show that in your cringe combat videos.
    No wonder you live in a fantasy world.
    Is the ghost of kiev coming back too?

    This article seems to be based around an assumption that the entire story of what is going on in Ukraine is obvious on its face. What is obvious is that the level of smoke and mirrors employed in this situation is on a generational scale. There are adults who were not alive to witness the last time we witnessed this level of obfuscation, control of the narrative, and use of the age old tactic of distraction

    Besides all of that, this article seems to pick and choose its obvious points and disregard many others

    All of that is to say that this is part of the overall effort, a position which is further supported by the fact that this article is printed by the esteemed simplicius. You know, that renowned author of insightful commentary that we all know so well
