The slow and steady climb to 3.0 culminates in the most modernized version of GIMP yet.

Why are 50% of the words in this article, covering 20 years of work, about making svgs of icons?

Terrible.

Haven't watched it yet, but DMD has a number of vids covering this, from plugin compatibility to features. Here's the RC1 vid: https://youtu.be/nLjlgHemaco

Seems like they're still playing catch-up. Photoshop is the only Adobe software I haven't cut out of my life. But it seems I will still be stuck with it for some time.

    Pity about the cringey name.

It's an acronym: GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP).

As a native English speaker I didn't know "gimp" was more than a nonsense word and a lowercase version of this program until your comment. I admit I grew up sheltered and that probably influenced what slang terms, especially unkind ones, I learned about, but otherwise I don't consider myself particularly deficient in the vocabulary department.

Offensive word for someone with a physical disability or leg injury, a stupid person, or (not sure if it's okay in this context) a submissive person in BDSM activities, according to the New Oxford American Dictionary.

The Glimpse Editor project shut down because there weren’t enough contributors, and the founder didn’t have enough time to do everything.

…and yeah it wasn’t just a rename, their github readme suggests they were making UX, accessibility, settings, and plugin changes to make it “enterprise ready” (not sure on the specific details of that though).
