“I won’t stand for it. Would we see the same reaction if the activists were far-right?”
Not at all, Liz, not at all. The far-right would use violence
A community for discussing events around the World
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

“I won’t stand for it. Would we see the same reaction if the activists were far-right?”

She says this as if the far-right doesn't constantly belittle, cuss out, diminish, put down, and spread falsehoods about their opponents and minorities
But she isn’t one of those people. She only cares when she’s the one affected
They usually get a slap on the wrist; cf instigating race riots gives longer sentences than blocking a highway.
I’ve learned how powerful the unelected bureaucracy is. You have to win in November … you have to dismantle the leftist state … they are devious, they are ruthless and they are out to get you.
Those are called voters.
pretty sure... uhm. do sheep eat lettuce?
Cows? maybe? or perhaps horses?
Well, it also included bankers and other financial types, economists and captains if industries, classic leftist material and bureaucracy according to truss, who were all hearing the economic equivalent of "terrain beep boop pull up" from their instruments and started yelling for somebody to do something.
It's not funny... it's HILARIOUS!
I felt a little bit sorry for her before I watched the video...and...hearing her say "It's the economy, stupid" and then the banner...it's a masterpiece. I can't stop watching it 😁
And she's wearing lettuce green!
It’s like watching an old slapstick pie-to-the-face routine, except the surprise is genuine. Truly, it’s majestic.
"they are suppressing my free speech" says woman invited to be on stage in front of a crowd of people and say anything she wants.
[Truss complained that the British press wasn't] “particularly deferential to politicians”
Why should they be? Their job should be to inform the public, not suck up to those in power.
Right? Fourth Estate doing its job, bitch. They spend enough time sucking capitalist dick, let them have this.
Also she holds no political offices right now. She isn't even an MP anymore. I think few politicians in the UK have demolished themselves this fast and spectacularly.
They suppressed free speech... by speaking.
I don't really get the joke, though. Lettuce?
There was a bet at the time she came into office that she would last less than an iceberg lettuce because of her outrageous policy proposals. She lasted 45 days before the pension funds collapsed and she was replaced, meanwhile, the lettuce persevered in its side dish career.
Hahaha!
The real joke is in the comments. That's amazing.
There was a livestream of the lettuce and everything. It was great.
The lettuce.
It's great because it started out as a sarcastic joke, but as her premiership progressed, there was a sense of dawning hilarity as we realised that she actually wasn't going to outlast the lettuce.
They can never laugh it off, that's all they need to do, but they don't have the capacity to laugh at themselves.
Which is ironic, considering that they're British.
So, these “far-left activists” according to Truss “intimidate people and suppress free speech”. By doing what exactly? Speaking freely? Isn't activism such as this an example of free speech? No surprise there that she supports Donald Trump. Just another smug, privileged little shit that lives in the Upside-Down. 45 days to crash the economy is pretty impressive. And despite such a piss-poor performance, she is entitled to all the financial perks that come with being a former Prime Minister (perks that are quite substantial incidentally). The sheer bare-faced audacity of this turd utterly astounds me.
She makes like a lettuce and leaves
It was all she had eyes berg for.
I got disrupted!! They are taking away my free speech by disrupting me!! On my book tour!! It's a security threat!! I have to go!! Trump is the best!! Love you Elon, thanks for X!!
-ex british pm of 45 days
And her without a parliamentary seat now too. Poor think will be Romaine aimlessly around not knowing what to do with herself.
Butterhead still will look silly
Endive it will. It’s as if her ice bergled the rest of her face.
She'll probably stay in the Fringe all year.
To paraphrase a popular English football (soccer) chant:
🎶 It's happened again. It's happened again. Liz Truss' lettuce, it's happened again! 🎶
Such a shame on the activists to spread disinformation. It was Lizzy who crushed the economy, #NOT THE LETTUCE!
Liz Truss makes for a better parody version of herself than the best comedian. She's is so inept in public.
Whoever is recording that really needs to clean the lens.
