I support this! Then all the new folks will be hella confused with the award system, expecting something rewarding, when it's actually just arbitrary fun.

I'm not sure. What I can tell you, is that I blocked YouTube domains at home, but Piped still played, which makes me think that the videos aren't served directly from the YouTube domains.
