I find it very annoying that iPhone 15s from all around the world have physical sims, the ones in Hong Kong have 2 but in USA they don’t… what is the reason for this? When I’m spending $1400 on a damn phone I want a physical sim tray too as it will be a great help when I’m traveling out the country.

Is there any reason for this? Apple sometimes does dumb things without context.

eSIM technology offers several advantages over traditional physical SIM cards:

  1. Convenience in Switching Carriers: eSIMs allow users to switch between carriers or plans easily without the need to physically replace a SIM card. This can be especially beneficial for travelers who need to switch to local carriers.

  2. Supports Multiple Profiles: An eSIM can store multiple carrier profiles simultaneously, allowing users to switch between them without needing several physical SIM cards.

  3. Space-Saving Design: Since eSIMs are integrated into the device, they eliminate the need for a SIM card slot, allowing for more compact and innovative device designs.

  4. Durability and Reliability: eSIMs are less prone to physical damage compared to physical SIM cards. They also eliminate the risk of losing or damaging the SIM during exchanges.

  5. Better Security: eSIMs can offer enhanced security features. The absence of a physical card reduces the risk of theft or unauthorized swapping.

  6. Environmentally Friendly: eSIMs contribute to reducing electronic waste by eliminating the need for physical SIM cards.

  7. Ideal for IoT Devices: For IoT (Internet of Things) devices, eSIMs are more practical due to their smaller size and ability to remotely manage connectivity.

  8. Simplified Manufacturing and Logistics: For device manufacturers, integrating eSIMs simplifies the manufacturing process and logistics, as they don't need to consider different SIM card sizes and types.

  9. Ease of Remote Provisioning: Carriers can remotely manage eSIMs, making it easier to update or change subscriber services without physical intervention.

  10. Reduces Roaming Costs: For frequent travelers, eSIMs can reduce roaming costs by allowing users to subscribe to local network services without needing a local SIM.
