Taylor Swift is a marketing and possibly a financial genius who has locked herself into the collective consciousness of the country. I used to try to not listen to her music at all, but my daughter and wife absolutely love her, so it's all I get to listen to around them. She's had virtually 0 truly bad press surrounding her. You don't have to like her music, but you have to respect her ability to sell her image and music. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 12 child comments replies: [–] yenahmik@lemmy.world 94 points 2 years ago (2 children) If nothing else, she is an incredible business woman. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] snooggums@kbin.social 42 points 2 years ago She is also an extremely talented musician and entertainer. I am not even a fan, just acknowledging that she has put out solidly constructed music and tours for well over a decade and is clearly far more than just a fad. permalink fedilink source parent [–] assassin_aragorn@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago* She's incredibly shrewd with business. Actually this is a point of conflict for some of her fans. Some of my friends are swifties and they hate consumerism and high concert prices and collectibles and marketing that incentivize FOMO to spend more money. They jokingly call her their capitalist queen. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] Drusas@kbin.social 33 points 2 years ago At least they're self-aware about it. permalink fedilink source parent [+] aniki@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago [deleted] permalink fedilink source parent [–] SnipingNinja@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 years ago Are you in my friend circle, because same with my swiftie friends permalink fedilink source parent [–] glimse@lemmy.world 33 points 2 years ago (2 children) I completely agree except for one small thing: She's had virtually 0 truly bad press surrounding her. They made the smart move to buy a farm and legitimize her country status. And I bet it was the parents idea to do country first and than transition to pop. The country genre was an easier market to break into at the time since country fans, back when she was an unknown, were still buying CDs at Walmart and such. So these store would put a larger selection of country music on the shelves than any other genre. Meaning a smaller country artist would get shelve space. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [+] aniki@lemm.ee -5 points 2 years ago (1 child) [deleted] permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] rambaroo@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago (1 child) The biggest lie you've been told in music is that American folk/country music is a southern thing.
