Imagine if the pyramids were built by the lowest bidder.
They were, nothing cheaper than free slave labor.
pretty sure the modern consensus is that the builders were well respected and well paid, and got to be buried in and near the pyramids they constructed.
Being buried by your job sounds like a throwaway line that was supposed to be world building in a cyberpunk novel. Go to Walmart and can't find parking cause the lot is full of headstones of dead Walmart greeters.
I sure hope that is the case. Would be nice to have something positive in history.
Just so you know it is usually the lowest qualified builder of spec. There are loads of problems in how contracts are rewarded this one is a talking point not really covering the issue. Like noting that someone dying of Covid is a bit sad. Ok, yeah it's true but there is a lot more going on here.
