1984 used to be my favourite book as a child ๐
I literally read 1984 five times. I wish I was exaggerating.
1979 times to go
I've read it at least twice and liked it quite a bit. Of course I recognize that it's a terrible novel, but some moments still stick with me, especially the scene where the MC is watching a prole woman sing while she hangs up laundry, and he's just like judging her relentlessly. Like what the fuck dude, let the woman sing while she hangs up laundry and shut the fuck up!
Writers would always say that George Orwell was the most amazing writer, so I also read some of Homage to Catalonia as well as all of Down and Out In Paris and London, in addition to some of his essays, like the (very typically lib one) where he kills an elephant in India but then feels bad about it. I also read Burmese Days in an Indian history class in college, which is literally about Orwell being a colonial police officer in Burma/Myanmar. I guess I've read a lot of Orwell, sadly, but fuck that guy.
