Fedora Atomic works really well, even better with the Cosmic edition I use. I can't wait to the kernel upgrade (7.3) in order to get even more performance. Altough I'll keep an old Hyperbola setup for my old netbook because my biggie amd64 machine it's mainly for Rust and modern gaming (Total Chaos and the rest are either libre games such as FreedroidRPG or libre recompilations). The netbook runs faster and snappier on CLI+TUI under UXTerm + CWM + TMUX (and mpv/nsxiv/mupdf...).

Since I run both Docker and Plex Media Server, atomic spins aren’t really a good option for me. The way they interact with certain system files is pretty much incompatible with an immutable distro. The number of workarounds that I would have to employ in order to get it all to work would be a gigantic headache and would pretty much undo any advantage I would gain.

Also, I really don’t like cosmic desktop. I used to use PopOS, and I was very excited for it, but when they switched to it, it just really wasn’t ready, and I still don’t think it’s ready yet. Plus it offers no framework for extensions or plug-ins yet. I far prefer GNOME, and GNOME 51 got some massive performance improvements. Plus, it looks almost exactly like macOS, which I really like.

Docker should run OOTB. Also, there's toolbox, where you can run anything inside, even daemons. And Flatpaks, too. Avoid messing with the core. On Gnome, well, Fedora it's almost its home.

Just get the default Gnome spin and look up for info (online) in order to replace Fedora's Flatpak repo to the Flathub one.

It’s not that I can’t run Docker or Plex, it’s just that doing so on any immutable distro is a pain in the ass compared to the relatively simple set up on a standard distro.

I’m fine with standard Fedora WS.

It made it possible, it didn’t solve the “pain in the ass“ part

If I was gonna go that route, I would start by trying to switch my entire stack over to podman in the first place. But I don’t even know if that’s possible.

As I said, I’m happy with my current set up
