Here it is! The November bloomer mega! Once again for if people want to share the good things happening in their lives! It can be something big like international news that brightened your day, or something small like a cool bug you found.

Either way, if you need a place to escape the noise and boost your morale for a second, this is it!

The only rule is to keep the vibes chill!

SOOOOOOO I hear Lula won in Brazil, and that the French did some pretty fire protests (Get it? Because they set some things on fire but also I mean fire as in peak, cool, whatever the hip kids say. I am very funny.) Anyway, it's good. People are doing things. Things have been happening. Will these things amount to anything? Who knows, but at least people are getting pissed off enough to break the civility brainworms.

Anyway, relax and don't eat all my doribos or I'll kick you out. OK you can have some but don't do that thing where you lick them all so no one else can have them.

I’ve been slacking and don’t have new critter pics doggirl-tears, but I played hardball (a.k.a. asked once nicely) with the admins and got them to federate with r1b.it, which is pretty cool since frog.

Idk if there is a better way than going on https://hexbear.net/communities?listingType=All&sort=New&page=1 and scrolling until you find something.

If someone gives you the link it's easier but discovery is a bit difficult.

Subscribing to remote comms is a super sucky experience. In theory, you go to Communities -> All and search for stuff, but you can’t search by remote instance, so you need to have already visited the remote comm list to figure out what’s hosted there and search for them.

It’ll be easier to click these links, which keep whatever local instance you click them from, and then hit subscribe in the sidebar (similar to @user tags or :emoji-codes:, just start typing !commName and click the result):

That’s all they’ve got at the moment!

I still don't understand how federation works

Every time I think I’m getting close I learn otherwise. At this point I might have more experience with how federation doesn’t work than with how it does.

It’s a relatively new instance! I only found it because I was looking for news about mander.xyz’s demise.

Oh… yeah, for about a month and a half now.

Basics are: the Dutch hosting provider was owned by a Russian who had been sanctioned, and then the managing director got arrested (possibly related?), and since then they’ve been down.

There hasn’t been a recent update - latest I saw was Sal hoping to regain access due to not having recent backups, but that was a while ago.
