I have only ever met up with forum people (all bikers) rather than Reddit/Lemmy people. Works best with well-frequented but still niche interests.

But might work okay if you can find a community or instance that is purely from your local area but it's still pretty small on here and it's unlikely you'll find too many local people in a niche interest community
