Network effect. The communities and discussions are still there. Lemmy has the infrastructure, mostly, but not the users and not the discussions at least not in anywhere near the same volume.

There's also a few seriously missing features with Lemmy, for example modmail.

I have also found, overall, as stupid and crazy as this may be, when discussing anything involving politics users on Lemmy can be almost militantly closed-minded. I find more intelligent discussions on Lemmy, but I also find more of the 'you either agree with me or you're everything that's wrong with the world' type.

Wait, there's no mod mail‽ That's a really important feature for people trying to mod well

There is the mod log at least. Getting banned on reddit was such a black box of pain. I wonder why I kept sticking my hand in it so often.

I have mixed feelings on mod logs personally. They're great when the mods aren't trustworthy and nothing is controversial. But I think they leave mod teams vulnerable to coordinated attack, which absolutely will happen if lemmy gets big enough. The mod logs played a (small) role in my decision not to take on mod roles or start communities here.

Mod mail on the other hand is a great tool for communication with basically no downsides
