I'm crashing out, my ward elected literally the worst candidate by like 15% margin. Her platform is fundamentally bad, my area is gonna get so much worse and cost the city so much more. I'm sure taking on more debt will fix things, right? We don't need revenue from property taxes right?

It's not ideal, but one eccentric councillor isn't likely to be able to accomplish much of anything. We unfortunately seem to have one or two of those every term, and they're just sidelined.

Well one councillor alone (Lukes) managed to shitcan the bike lane curb on Wellington just last year, and that's where cyclists keep dying. So, idk, one councillor can definitely directly impact what gets done in the city. And with the Kenaston widening continuously being pushed, we need as many councillors to block it as possible. We're up to $730M to save 12 seconds per trip at a expected rate of return of .2 above discount rate. The whole city will pay dearly for that choice over decades, and it's only in service of basically Waverly West and River Heights.

I thought Lukes was advocating for a permanent bike lane on Wellington?

She "is" but then actively blocks any attempts to put anything in place. She claims she wants to "defer the work until a permanent solution is understood" but you get the data for what a permanent solution should be by putting in temporary infrastructure and seeing how people use it. She personally bumped out the bike lane installation in 2026.
