Conservative != Bad

I really have been disappointed over the last few days reading comments here that amount to that.

I haven't voted Conservative since Harper but it was clear that in BC (I'm in Ontario) Eby shit the bed with a vote no one wanted when the system was not prepared. The voters saw through his bullshit and they punished him and the NDP accordingly.

How about we wait and see what they do before we default to "oh no here we go downhill again"?

No, Conservative == Bad. It's a shit political movement that really just consists of wrapping fascism in euphemisms. And yes, that includes your conservative party, whose platform includes cutting taxes, increasing the police force, giving NIMBYs power over zoning decisions, attacking electrification and promoting fossil fuels, repealing DRIPA, increased immigration enforcement, and anti-BDS regulation. You don't need to give them power to find out how awful they are, you just have to read and listen to what they are saying

Exactly, examine what policies work for healthy society and high quality of life. People value healthcare w/o bankruptcy, paid leave from work and other public benefits that reduce stress from artificial scarcity. Health outcomes, productivity and quality of life all improve with the healthy policies and efficient implementation. Raise all boats and such works, collective well-being over dualism and zero sum punching down. Teach critical thinking and Sagan's baloney detection kit to avoid scams and quackery. Teach SEL and mindfulness too. Many proven practices and polices to use if people really want healthier, educated societies for stronger democracies.

Socrates and Sagan taught us to think rather than obey indoctrination. In a democracy this is foundational. If citizens can't question claims, can't examine assumptions, can't challenge authorities, then democracy becomes theater. Ubi dubium ibi libertas!

In this case, they didn't make a good impression!

    • many candidates have expressed interest in repealing our human rights code
    • we are likely to see a sharp downturn in government/ First Nations relations
    • the party still tolerates separatists
    • pro-american views verging on seditious have not been disciplined
    • a bunch of very racist things were said without consequences
    • historically, right wing government leads to fiscal hardship in BC
    • it's likely to get very rough tor trans people, especially youth
    • republican style rhetoric about LGBTQ+ people and programs
    • crime and punishment rhetoric (more cops, more enforcement, no address of root causes)
    • our housing problems require left-wing solutions

BC has a pretty wacky record on right wing populism, and they're back. UCP vibes.

Reputable news source reporting on this?

CTV, CBC, Global, CHEK. Use search functions, it’s a wide range of topics but they all reported some of it. Is there something in particular you want verification for?

Any of the specific points raised. I will admit I follow CBC closely both TV and radio and I haven't not heard any of this. I also follow numerous podcasts and haven't heard any of this as well.

On repealing our human rights code

    The legislation

34 cons plus 3 right wing independents voted in favour of first reading, which can morally hide behind ‘just curious’

TheMLA was forced out, but only due to public backlash; she was allowed to present the bill.

There is a lot, and I shouldn’t have to provide sources, it’s easy to look up and oh-so-predictable. Some good reading here thank you.

Just to nitpick a bit and also to concede a mutual (I hope) "we don't know yet".

A few of these articles are prior to the leadership change and may be representative of the previous gongshow with a leader getting high on their own supply.

I guarantee the BCPC did not adequately vet before the leadership due to the time ol' dumbass Eby gave them so the concern is something comes out especially damning as journalists begin vetting further.

What I will say is some of the articles are what seems to be reporting bias such as the "declaration of war" which seems less about discussing potential policy changes and more about inflammatory language by the opposing party?

Now what pisses me off more than anything is ol' dumbass Eby could have held power for another 2 years but instead, when the opposition was their most vulnerable called a snap election. Were I a BC voter I would be pissed to. Motherfucker could have continued to run the province as a status quo. He actively decided to fuck that up for literally no good reason. I would argue the average BC voter agreed with me on that assessment by either voting Conservative or staying home.

The “declaration of war“ regarding DRIPA is an opinion stated by more than a few First Nations leaders, and the article referenced is a demonstration of that difficulty in relations, which you wanted verified.

I had also hoped that all the extremism was a symptom of a party in disarray, but upon closer inspection it looks like much of that sludge has not been washed out, merely groomed for presentability. Time will tell. It does feel like foreign interference at work through useful idiots.

I hear you but at the same time everything can't be foreign interference.

Time will tell. For me, BC is a very left-leaning province. I take these results less as a shift right and more as an indication they were done with the NDP and Eby's dumbass decision. This is more representative by the low voter turnout. It's not that the Conservatives were appealing to the broad populace, a lot of people stayed home.

No different than Ontario (my province) in this respect. Currently we have the OPC dismantling all our social services because people continue to stay home and not vote and it pisses me off to no end.

And like you (I think) it's frustrating that people are sitting on their asses waiting for a specific party (in this case OLP) to get their shit together meanwhile there ar 2 very viable opposition parties ready to go. I vote Green Provincially. I'm used to frustration lol
