The fact that LLMs can now be used to reverse engineer software easily is very much an unintended consequence from capitalist perspective. I expect that rental models will start putting restrictions on this before long. but the cat is now out of the bag, and we have local models that will actually do what you tell them. And this is why it was always important to ensure this tech is developed in the open rather than simply trying to boycott it.

We are headed for the world that Stallman imagined where everyone can have complete control over their own software stack, and decide how their computer works. It wasn't feasible before LLMs because it was challenging to modify large programs even for experienced developers. So, the cost was prohibitive. But now you can just throw an LLM at it, and it'll figure things out. And thing is that it doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to work for the use case the user has. This is a much more tractable problem than building a general purpose product that has to work for every user.
