My FIL was a life long republican (he was a standard conservative engineer type), his wife a democrat social worker, but the post 9/11 Iraq invasion flipped him to democrat and heβs stayed that was even now in his 80s.
My dad was a pretty liberal guy, got tear gassed protesting Vietnam. Taught us to distrust the police and most other authority. My mom was the democrat too but less extreme and ran school boards against republicans who wanted to defund everything.
All four voted for Reagan at least once.
